He's tossing mostly Super Spook Jrs. - 3 1/2 in,, 1/2 oz.
Would a MHX P844-2-MHX (rated to 5/8oz.) be better suited for topwater fishing with this size lure than a P843?
Thanks again!!!

I'm a freshwater builder, this inshore spinning build for a friend is new territory -- Would a blank such as a MHX Inshore series SJ842-2 be a good choice? Casting lures mostly, 3000-size spinning reel, 12lb braid w/mono leader.
Thanks again!

Thank you Tom, I wasn't sure if Rodgeeks offered a two pc inshore, but I will check with both mfgs. Appreciate your help!

Looking for a recommendation for a 7', two piece, (possibly orange) inshore spinning blank to handle speckled trout and occasional redfish? Casting lures mostly, 3000 spinning reel used, 12lb braid w/mono leader.
Many thanks!

Thank you John, appreciated. I'm looking for a light & lively downrigger blank for Cayuga fish, 4 - 10lb lake trout mostly. Finally got my hands on a DR845, feels a bit heavy in the butt end, but does have a nice parabolic action.

Thanks very much Tony, appreciated. I wasn't sure if this MHX blank might be overkill (if there is such a thing!) on these smaller 4 - 8lb avg. Finger Lakes lakers or not, tough to judge when only viewing website specs. I'll be in touch with you soon, thanks again!

100. 7' downrigger blank
Looking for a 7' downrigger blank, similar to Okuma's Classic Pro (7'0, 8 - 20lb line, 3/4 - 4oz lure). A friend of mine trolls for 4 - 10lb lake trout and is looking for a rod with lively action, yet can handle these fish. Have heard good reviews of the MHX DR845, but not sure how it compares to the Okuma.
Thanks for any suggestions - very appreciated!

I would like to enlarge the opening of a Tour Star (rubber) grip to accommodate a larger-diameter casting blank, just wondered what would be the best tool for the job. (Dream Reamer?)
Appreciated, Mike

Thank you both, appreciated. I wasn't sure if epoxy would adhere to the rubber(?) grip material.

Can Rod Bond be used instead of double-stick tape to mount a Tour Star grip to a blank? Thanks!

Thanks Roger, your (and Tom's) method will probably be how I end up spacing the runners past the choke guide. I am using Minima guides also.
Appreciated, Mike

Thanks Tom, I use the ngc on shorter rods with good results, but wondered if there might be a point of diminishing returns using ngc on a rod of this type and length (plus the extra weight of larger guides). It's such a "willow stick", was hoping to find a balance using fewer running guides than normal.
Appreciated, Mike

Just curious, trying to set up a 10'6 noodle spinning rod and wondered if the NGC method was best, or if guides should be spaced further apart (thinking less overall weight) due to the whippy, willow-like action of this blank. Reel used has a 41mm dia spool, running guides will be #8 d/t possible ice conditions.
Very Appreciated - Thanks, Mike

Need to replace a single-foot running guide on a 7' Fenwick HMX casting rod, looks to be size 6 or 7. Appears to be titanium-framed with a dark grey (hialoy?) insert.
Any help with identification is greatly appreciated - Thank you!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the help.
Thanks Roger, I'll check out the size of the reel and make a recommendation for a larger one if thinks it may be an issue. This is a slow-action noodle rod (3S106UL2) so I may be able to get away with less guides, will static test just the same.

111. Re: Float rod build
Thank you Frank, appreciated. I wondered if the reasoning was to smooth the line path vs. a std tip top.
I also apologize and should have been more clear when I hurried through my first post - this will be a spinning rod built on a 10'6 3S106UL2 noodle blank, not an actual "float" rod. 2 - 4# mono on a Penn 1000 reel.
Thanks again, Mike

I have a request to build a 10'6 noodle rod for a friend who fishes during cold weather (icy guides). He's using a Penn 1000 series spinning reel, plan on using a NGC setup will be along the lines of 25, 12, and either 7's or 8's for runners. This is (yet another) new rodbuilding adventure for me, I just wondered if there would be an advantage of using a single foot guide for the tip top instea

Curious about the guide setup, would snakes be beneficial d/t icing?

Just had a request from a friend for a 10'6 - 11'6, 2 - 6# line, "noodle" rod for cold-weather (icy guides) walleye fishing. Unfamiliar with this type of fishing, would greatly appreciate any blank and component recommendations.
Many Thanks!!!

Just wondered if a 7'6" MHF Avid inshore blank would be comparable or ballpark to extending a 7' Avid MHF blank 6".

Just curious - Would a St. Croix 3C76MHF inshore blank be fairly comparable to an extended 3C70MHF casting blank? (Thanks!)

I just re-wrapped guides on a surf rod using ProWrap nylon, size D. Very pleased with results. The thread diameter seems smaller than any other mfgs D (and even some C) threads that I've ever worked with, very little bulk.

Ditto to Andrew. (Thanks again to Duane and Steve) I do find that the slow spiral casts better than the simple (bumper) setup when using micros.

Thanks again for the cork tape removal tip too - worked like a charm!
