Thanks Roger, appreciated (I know that I make things much harder than they really are!)

Putting together a couple MHX DR845 downrigger rods as gifts, just wondered if anyone could recommend guide sizes and suggested spacing as I don't see any recipe listed for it. Many thanks, appreciated!

Thanks (again) Roger, I'm going with the St. Croix.
I sincerely appreciate everyone's help - this is a great forum! Have a great and prosperous New Year!

...Still looking around, wondered if a St. Croix 3C70MHM or MHX L842 would suit this application, (walleye trolling with 2oz. max bottom bouncer/ worm rig).
Thanks again

Thanks Scott, appreciated. Definitely headed toward a moderate-action blank.

Thanks very much Roger, I agree in many ways! I shuddered a bit regarding a faster-actioned, graphite rod for trolling when a 2oz sinker was tossed into the equation, plus a mag-bass rated blank isn't very forgiving action-wise as you know. (Hopefully, I can talk some sense into him!)
I'm leaning toward a glass blank that can handle the load and still be forgiving on the bite. Thanks again

I have a friend looking for a walleye trolling rod, he uses a 2oz. bottom bouncing sinker with a worm harness most of the time. He's asked for a rod with a bit faster action for hooksets, not as slow as a downrigger blank or SPG glass blank. He liked a 7', MH mag bass blank I showed him, but I'm thinking that might be too fast of action, especially when trolling. Just wondered if there might b

Building up a Rodgeeks RG-42 for a 7-year old's Christmas gift and just can't help thinking that these might make a terrific ice rod for smaller (3 - 8#) lake trout. Anyone else wiggle one yet? - limber tip and nice backbone. Just wondered what your thoughts were, thanks

Thanks Mike and Roger - yes, this tip section is a mess now, beyond sleeves. I purchased another similar blank of the same length/weight that I will build up for my friend, keeps me busy. Thanks very much again, appreciated.

Thanks Roger, wish I could splice it, this one's far beyond help though.

Thanks Matthew, no luck with St. Croix. They offered their warranty program ($), but I would like to find a replacement instead if possible.

Searching for a St. Croix 3F908, 2-piece blank in charcoal grey/black (only a couple years old), was hoping to replace just a broken tip section without rebuilding the whole rod.
Many thanks!

I'm working on the same and asked Mudhole, mentioned either Pro Wrap Pea Green or Kiwi. I agree with Randy on the neon green also.

I switched from a right to a left-cranking casting reel years ago when I started vertical jigging for lake trout out of a small boat. I would keep the outboard running (back then, I use a trolling motor with spot-lock now), kicking it in reverse/neutral with my left hand against the wind/waves to remain vertical over the fish, which turned into an aerobics workout flip-flopping between the motor

Sorry, I'm not finding any info on these seats, the link runs into a dead-end ("Content isn't available"). Also not finding them on the American Tackle website. (?)

Thanks Tom, I'll add another epoxy coat, sand, and permagloss. (Sorry I missed your earlier post stating the same.) Thanks again!

Thanks very much, - do you sand the CFx grips down smooth first as shown in the video, or add another coat of epoxy, then sand? No sanding? (Sorry to be a pain!). Appreciated

Thanks for the demo Taylor, appreciated!
I was wondering about how to successfully apply a top coat to these grips - seems like they would need to be sanded smooth before a coating (Permagloss) is applied? Would another epoxy coat or two be necessary? I would be afraid of sanding into the foam core otherwise.
I tried to top-coat a cfx grip once - applied ProKote finish directly (very lig

Thank you Norman, appreciated. I'm going to try the KW's for the transition, they have a bit longer bracing than I'm use to but should work ok.

Should have done a bit more research: KW - KB - KT, think I answered my own question!

I would like to attempt using some Fuji K-series guides to set up some 7', MH baitcasting rods. All will be spiral-wrapped, using two transition guides between the 0 and 180-deg, and a couple will just incorporate a bumper guide. I'm trying to decipher the Fuji guide styles and wondered what model(s) to pick (RV, KW belly, KT...etc.). I normally build baitcasters with a 6, 5, 4, 4,...guide t

Google the Sutton Co., Naples, NY? They sell rig components, not sure about the spring clips. I grew up trolling SG rigs - used a 3-way bead chain swivel to attach the leaders to the main line and never disconnected anything when pulling in a fish, just used cardboard squares every couple of spoons to help separate that rats nest! Good luck

Thanks Roger, agreed - I was thinking about tossing a heavy bait, but a med or med/heavy should handle this duty fine. Will root around my blank pile... thanks again

Thanks Norman, I was thinking of possibly using the popping blank d/t its slower tip section (not throwing bait off on the cast). I have some M and MH blanks that should work also, appreciated.

Have a request to build a spinning rod for a fellow who targets catfish in his stocked pond, some growing to 10lbs. He usually casts smaller baits with a bobber as far as I have learned. I have a P842 blank at home, but wondered if there might be a better choice for "pond cats".
Thanks very much for any recommendations - appreciated!

Thanks very much gentlemen, very appreciated! I will give the different oil treatments a test, I have some gunstock (Tru oil) and BLO handy. Turned an end cap this evening - this could easily become another addiction!
Thanks again!

Finally watched Andy Dear's dvd after purchasing many moons ago and turned my first reel seat. I turned a stabilized, big leaf maple block and it turned out ok. Finished by alternating a few coats of CA w/150grit paper, then finish sanded to 2000grit. I would really like to make the grain pop and achieve a glossier look, can I use spar urethane (or use a different product/method altogether) af
