I guess I should have given more information as to its use. We catch and release every smallmouth, or for that matter largemouth, bass we catch, always! But it's nice to

Does anyone have any clever ways of marking their rod so that one could easily measure off a fish quickly. Permanent and/or non-permanent marks? I'm not sure I want to commit to putting down some fine thread wraps and finish. As always, thanks for your input.

Thought I might get your take on this gentleman's ideas on non-traditional fly rod building. ex. right hand vs. left hand rods and 15 guides on a 9 ft. rod. As always, thank you for your comments.

Just curious what many would consider their favorite multi piece travel/packable fly rod blank, around 8.5 ft. I've built on the Forecast 5 wt. 5 piece blank but would prefer a faster rod. As always, thank you for your suggestions.

A friend of mine that used to fish on the pro tour would always stress a short, very fast ,snap hook set, Not the type where you drop the rod tip, take up the slack and then set her home. He said they felt it was in the speed of the hook set and not in the distance the rod tip was moved. I don't have a clue if this helps or not.

Could someone please inform me what grit sandpaper you would most likely use in order to strip the standard black finish of a St. Croix II blank down to the natural matt gray without removing stock? As always, thanks

Just curious if you received a decal or any factory rod card, warranty card or anything that verifies it is a first quality Fly Logic rod blank and not a blem or second? I wrote to one fellow selling them dirt cheap on @#$%& and asked if it came with the factory card or decal and he became very very defensive. I traded for a Fly Logic Optimum blank a while back and was impressed wth the light w

Italo, when I finish one of my rods, I tend to sit back and say "functional, well made, and not too hard on the eye" , but with your stuff, I say "ART" I only wish I had that much talent and could take it to the next level.

Does anyone have an idea just how long ago a fishing rod or "pole" was created using today's basic construction, that being of a stick with some type of "guide" attached by sinew, a varnish or whatever that the line might run thru? Just curious. Thanks

Need to build a Christmas present real quickly for an in-law, he mentioned a 9 ft 2 piece 7 wt, and it has to be relatively inexpensive. Nothing in the CC data to go on, so has anyone built on the Batson RX7 model or the Pac Bay Rainforest II ? Just thought I would ask if anyone had any opinions on these two specific models. As always, thanks for your insight.

Tom has often stated that it's getting harder to find a "bad" blank anymore, but I was just curious if anyone has purchased a blank recently after giving it the analytical wiggle, gone home and built on it, and then found it didn't perform as expected or upon later better examination, exclaimed "What was I thinking?!"

Tom, you may be right in the fact the American consumer has the final vote, but when Wal-mart sells a product for less than I can buy directly from the laboratory, and I find that they are selling it at their cost as a loss leader, the deck is squarely stacked against the smaller business.

What Larry said above has worked very well for me for years. I like the cut up credit cards as you can better control the width of the application tool.

Thank you Bill for the kind reply but I was hoping I could find the blanks through one of this boards sponsors. I try if at all possible to support those that support this forum.

Steve, not to hi-jack the thread but what kind of replacement/repair policy do you offer these guys, because I know from my association with these semi-pros, no one and I mean no one is rougher on their rods than this group. I couldn't believe someone could trash that many rods that quickly until I spent some time on the water with my pro-angling buddy.

I was close to one of the guys on the BassMasters circuit years ago, and it went like this: Company X : Hey Dale, how would you like us to continue to sponsor you for the upcoming year? Dale: Sure, you know how expensive it's getting to play this game! Company X : Let us put your name on a new signature model we're about ready to market, It will be another specialty rod (ex. crankbait spe

Andy, is it possible to increase pot life by a few minutes without increasing curing time by hours? Just curious because I really like the quick curing time presently and love the fact that I can use just one coat for an excellent finish.

It's not just about the ring material, take a look at the frame alloy and the size of the guide foot. Example, a while back I measured to the nearest grain and found that the Amtak Titan #6 fly guide, Fuji Alconite #6 guide, and a single foot standard TiChrome #3? wire guide all weighed almost identical. Though titanium is lighter than stainless steel, the guide foot on the Titan is several mm'

Aaron, you can build a fly rod in a day if you want to hit it hard but the fun is in taking your time and doing it at your own leisure. Enjoy the journey, it's not just about the destination. Oh, and btw, you can build an outstanding rod for $100 complete these days, that can rival anything out there for several times that much.

Just a couple words of advice since this is what I get to do for a living: As mentioned above, in general, the greater the working light >>------> the better in most cases. As we age, the human eye requires more light to see the same thing vs. when we were younger. Won't go into the anatomical reasons why. Light can be as important as magnification. Try to use the least amount of m

Don, Good luck finding one as well, and if you find two, let me know as I can always use another one. When the river is low as it is at this time of year, I get to use mine for smallies since I'm using smaller lighter weight buggers that don't have to get as deep and that rod is a ball when bringing in 15+ inchers.

The Sig V's that I've built on in the past (3 piece) were definitely faster at recovery and flexed more towards the tip then say Batson's RX 7 line up or Pac Bay Rainforst series, rods that I consider as defining moderate fast. But hey, that's just me and the way I define Moderate fast vs. fast. I haven't found a lot of rods that are that fast other than a few from Sage and Winston. Now pleas

If you like fast rods, you'll like Dan Craft Sig V 9' 5 wt. but be prepared as to what you ask for, you will get a very fast rod with this series.

Between my son and me, it varies greatly from year to year. Normally I fall in the second category that Tom spoke about, for ourselves, family, and friends, donations to various organizations and a couple sales here or there. I made the mistake of putting a couple of our rods on display at a friends fishing/hunting retail shop and started getting more orders than we could handle. At that point

Bob, although I didn't build on that exact Imperial blank that you mentioned, I've built enough of them over the years to say that the SC II blanks of the Imperial line were fairly slow rods by todays design and the RX 7 will be much faster. You might want to have him try a Forecast blank by Batson as that would probably more closely resemble the older Imperials.
