Did anybody go xenophobic??? "Seems a lot of my customers have poles with eyes that need fixin'........geez"...??? Me, comin' from ze Poland pliss I 'ave no national recommenation. Quite honestly, we 'eren find Fuji guides/rings (whatever) are unparallelled. But then I have personally used Pacific Bay and Batson guides and have had no complaint from myself whatsoever. Both have perform

"I have never used a fishing "pole"" ... Having said that: you actually use a pole support just in front of you and a rear support several feet behind, to keep the butt off the ground. The bloody thing is quite light ;-) relatively and I understand one does not have to work out at the gym every day to use a fishing Pole ... er ... pole ;-)) Cheers, Michal

I have never used a fishing "pole" (though I personally am a fishing "Pole" ;-)) But: 1- Bolognese rods are a completely different story. They are basically float rods build on telescopic blanks. They are usually not longer than approx. 25 ft., have guides and are used with a fixed spool reel for fishing especially in rivers. 2- "Poles" are also known as "R

"Tangle free" means the line won't get tangled around the guides when casting. The frame shape is supposed to make the line slip off, rather than tighten up on the guide. Cheers, Michal

They even have 7'6" 3-piece blanks. Great stuff actually, but they are not 8 footers :-( CTS will provide 2-,3 and even 4-piece blanks in a range of lengths and weights. Pricey stuff, though ... Cheers, Michal

CTS blank - they have various blank ranges to choose from. The alternative is anything of what the other have said: cutting, gluing, modifying etc. Cheers, Michal

Actually I am more like "up above" and across the pond. Warsaw, Poland, Europe. The blank would be used for occasional soft bait jigging and casting minnows in a big river for fish like zander (European walleye), pike, asp (a toothless predator, related to the carp and quite hard running) - all within the 2-10lb range usually. I do think I will give the RX8+ blank a go. If only just for

Music to my ears, mate :-) I was actually thinking of another source, yet actually offering the discontinued RX8+ blanks. And yes, the price is quite "pleasing to my wallet" too ;-))) Cheers, Michal

Slow and wiggly is certainly not what I want. Thanks for that info. Actually I was thinking some time ago about a 4-piece VI+ Talon blank (the specs are strangely similar to the Angler's Workshop blank ;-)), but judging by the description I was given, it is not what I am looking for. Will keep looking. Thanks guys! Michal

2-piece are not sufficiently multipiece as far as I am concerned. I have had and have a number of different S&S rods, all of them 2-piece. Now I need a truly MULTIpiece job and four pieces are the minimum. Now, "fly blanks made into spinning rods are a blast to fish" ... would you care to elaborate pls? Because ... what makes them so cool? I have never had a spinning rod built on a

Seeing as there are almost no multipiece blanks (other than fly) available in lengths 8' + I was thinking of getting a Batson RX8+9010-4 fly blank and building it as a spinning rod. What sort of power do you people think it might have? Would it be in the 15-17lb range or less thank that? Also am I guessing right that max. casting weight would be approx. 1 oz.? I was comparing its specs to the

Have them on one rod. Not used much, but they are fine. Quite nice to the touch, with a pleasant sticky feel. Mind you, not glue-like, but rather just providing a positive and firm grip. Can't compare them with golf clubs, 'cos have never held such. Cheers, Michal

I am a haphazard "for myself only" rodbuilder, so I don't have a regular rodbuilding desk, which would be at all times with rodbuilding stuff lying on it. However even when I do get down to working on a rod, my sausage dog just doesn't care. Of course a hot dog ;-) is basically a lowlands-locked critter and doesn't do much climbing, but even when I leave the rod drier on, with a 9' rod

I would rebuild it, but I'd be veeery careful now, especially removing the old wraps. I went about rebuilding a Cascade Batson IST1084F (really sweet blank) and I damaged the tip when scraping off the old wraps and finish. Easy does it, but yes. To rebuild it is my recommendation. Cheers, Michal

This is what the St.Croix website says about Premier SC II series rods: "Batson Forecast® hard aluminum-oxide guides with double-plated black chrome frames." Cheers, Michal

Timo Keil (Rodpro) is quite a civilised guy ;-). He ships it to basically all Europe. The magazine does arrive with a delay, but then it has quite some distance to cover. An annual subscription should cost you maybe just under 60 quid. Cheers, Michal

My general recommendation would be: a 9'6" or 10' steelhead blank. 12lb up to 3/4 CW, fast action. The higher the modulus, the better (as a general rule with some exceptions). I would try first of all St.Croix Legend Elite 9'6" or Batson XST1143F with a somewhat lower price tag. Set 'em up for a fixed spool reel and you're game :-) Cheers, Michal Composite Developments of New Zeal

Basically any 8'6" blank up to 12lb line and casting max 3/4 oz. lures will fit the bill. I will second what "my distinguished predecessors" have said ;-) that IM6 will hold up better. Batson RX7, St.Croix SCII, MHX to name but a few, throw in a set of Fuji Alconite guides, maybe a complete handle assembly and you're done. Cheers, Michal P.S. St.Croix SCII blanks are particula

"Therefore we have already had meeting with several other international shipping solution providers and hope to have a new lower cost international shipping solution in place soon. Lucky you ;-) Mind you, I've bought from Mudhole several times. The service was always excellent and the products were all in stock. I was a very satisfied customer. There is however the issue of shipping costs (international) since some months ago. The fly in the otherwise top notch ointment. Cheers, Michal

The thing with Mudhole is that they have an outrageous policy as far as international shopping charges are concerned. On the other hand they are absolutely in a class of their own in terms of product range. An honest-to-God one stop shop. Whatever you need rodbuildingwise, they've got it. However the shopping charges - a minimum of $30 international. Damn! Cheers, Michal

Personally I write on the side so that I can see it when holding the rod to admire it, but then I build rods only for myself and have no need for any advertising/marketing effect. I guess it may be different, seen from the point of view of a professional rodbuilder. Cheers, Michal

Dremel tool works best for me. I once tried a hacksaw and had to buy a new blank. Since then I have used a Dremel-type tool several times with success and not even a scratch on the blank. Michal

My suggestion would be to get a greenish stabilised wood insert, custom made for some smart reel seat. Even if it is not exactly the same colour as the blank, it will be fine. Unless you absolutely must have a perfect colour match, such a set-up will look great in its own right. I would rather try to get the thread colour then, as close to the blank colour, as possible. I have seen, though no
