I didn't know anything about Johnny's predicament, but God bless and my prayer is the least I can do. Whatever the issue is, I hope he will be fine soon.

Hi everyone!
Has anyone had an opportunity to build on the new Unity fly blanks from Batson? Is there much difference between them and the old blue-coloured RX6 blanks?

35. MHX spey
I was looking for some user feedback on MHX spey blanks and found practically nothing. How about this forum's users? Anything about MHX DH blanks? Mudhole have a whopping 75% discount on them at the moment ...
Worth spending the money or better spend it elsewhere?

37. NFC fly blanks
I am thinking about buying an NFC 8' 3wt fly blank for dry fly fishing. Two are available: moderate action and slow. Is NFC slow really slow or is it rather on the faster side of slow, or even more like moderate? Or maybe the moderate action one would be a better idea?

Built a Rainshadow RX8-series 9' 8wt fly rod blank as a spinning rod. It's basically a mod-fast steelhead rod now with power up to approx. 10-11lb and cw in the 1/4-5/8 oz. range. On the other hand a 10wt blank from the same series makes a very nice fast action rod with power, which I estimate is up to 12-14lb, and which can cast up to a little below 1 oz. It all depends on the particular blank,

Dear Aleks,
In your message you say "direct to consumer/factory direct company in the US". Is that going to affect overseas distribution in any way? Meaning, abroad you will continue selling via your foreign distributors? Not that I have any problem with that, I would just like to know.
Best regards,
Michal

I called Hardy customer service ... the Zenith rods are not available anymore and they were made overseas anyway, so "sorry, we can't help you". The thread is definitely not black. It looks like greenish coyote brown, or something ... no trim wraps indeed.

Hi!
Can anyone help please? I need the exact color of thread used on Hardy Zenith fly rods. Specifically 9', 5wt. 4 piece.

44. NFC fly blank
Specifically a 4wt. 8'6" moderate action fly blank. There are hardly any reviews or views about NFC fly blanks available online. Has Gary done a good job and can his product face up to Sage, Winston et al, or is it not quite in the same league? Besides, is there any general rule about NFC fly blanks, like: they are all top of the line, or close, or are they more like mid-market? The price sa

Alps Ti-LXNZG - excellent titanium framed stripping guides. Have them on several rods, used in salt - not a trace of corrosion.

I rank titanium guides as follows:
1 - Fuji
2 - ALPS
3 - the rest

They are all very good blanks. The main difference is country of manufacture:
St.Croix SCIII - made in the US
Rainshadow Revelation - made in China
Rodgeeks Carbon 4 - made in Mexico
The above notwithstanding, I must admit I very much miss the US made Rainshadow blanks. That being said - their PRC made blanks really rock!

I would assume that when they (Alps) say: solid titanium, that's what they mean. That being said, Fuji titanium guides are lighter, but then they are double the price. Your choice ...

One thing is that Winn grips are somewhat flexible, so reaming one to the diametre of the upper part might be enough and the lower part would have a tight, rather than just snug fit, but it would nevertheless expand a bit.
Also you could simply cut the integrated butt cap short to have enough flat surface to accomodate a rubber butt plug. Have done it myself so I know it works. If @#$%& happens

Although tastes differ, a ferrulled rod without a reinforcement wrap looks kind of incomplete IMHO

The only reason I have built 3 rods so far on fly blanks was that the blanks were 4-piece and therefore highly packable. Still, the end result is quite nice. I used only Rainshadow RX8 blanks, assuming that they will be sufficiently fast in action and cheap to buy, as they have been discontinued.
The first one I built used an XF865-4 blank i.e. 8'6" 5wt. The end result is a moderate actio

Well, I didn't specify any particular split seat ;-) ... but seriously, you have a point Spencer. In such case (irrespective of whether Max would be building the rod himself or ordering one) the option would be to get an appropriate size casting reel seat (wide enough) and cut it in two.
Forum: rodboard 7 years ago

The simplest solution is to use a split reel seat. Then you can actually have a reel with a foot, which is a foot long ;-) or thereabouts. Its just a question of what distance between the two parts of the reel seat YOU want to have.

go for Elite SD series blanks.
Other than the above, if you manage to find a Rainshadow RX8 XF9010-4 blank, this will give you a great steelhead spinning or casting rod blank with upper CW slightly nudging the 3/4 oz. limit and power, which I estimate at an easy 14-15 lb. Admittedly: it is 9', not 8' or 8'6" and in four, not three pieces.
There is also a blank manufacturer in Poland

Mudhole actually offer two lengths of fighting butts, which they recommend be coupled with EVA butt caps. Should do fine, although Winn black fighting butts might also look swell :-)

Actually the Rainshadow RX6 series F864-4 blank is quite nice. Maybe not the lightest out there but great for relaxed-style casting. And certainly not one to break the bank.
