I haven't build a rod in awhile (3 years) and was just getting things setup for a build when I noticed my flex coat lite hardener has turned to an amber color? Has anyone ever noticed this and will it ultimately affect the color of my finish when mixed with the resin? Thanks, -Mike

Ooooooh, dremel with a grinding stone. What a great idea (i didnt need the tips of my fingers anyway...haha). Im definately gonna get some hemo's and use the dremel. Hmmmm, I guess I forget how small these guides really are. in my head im thinking I can just clip onto the upper portion of the guide and have room to file, I guess that might not be the case.....DOH! Now I need to watch some vide

thanks for all the suggestions. I am building with guides on top and will most likely have it paired with a Shimano Chronarch 201E or Abu Garcia Revo premier. Think im gonna try with all micros and with the fuji plcsg in 5mm for stipper and see which is better or if any difference at all. If no difference i'll stick with all micros for less weight. How does everyone file the guide foot on the

Hey guys. Im starting my first micro build. Its a 7' MH power fast action bass rod. Gonna use it for swimbaits and flipping grass on the Potomac River. The handle from butt to bottom of real seat is 11.25 inches. The real seat is a Fuji ECSM with the threads cut down to 4 5/8". Its split grip with no foregrip. I am going to use Fuji titanium SIC #4's with a titanium SIC 4.5 top. Probably use

Thanks for the response Mark and Alex. Mark, I'll send an e-mail cause I do want to know if the line/lure ratings translate properly for these blanks.

I want to build a couple rods with the North Fork Composites "HM" blanks. These will be bass fishing casting rods and I am looking for a 6'6" Medium power fast action. I remember touching some of the blanks at the expo last year and I think I remember them being quite soft for the listed power/action. Has anyone built with these blanks and can you compare them to any other blank

I use the polyurethane arbors from Flexcoat. Usually a size 16 arbor will fit inside the threaded part of a Fuji exposed reel seat (tightly), not sure about AT or Pacbay? I take the full length arbor and twist it into the front about 1/2 inch then cut that 1/2 off. Then drill it with my pilot hole drill bit and ream it to fit on the blank where it would be inside the reel seat. Then I epoxy it in

Thanks Alex. I should have been more specific. I am looking for rings in size 4 and under. The smallest A.T. chrome framed guides I see are size 5. If they offer any smaller sizes please let me know who carries them? I know A.T. has the Titan's in smaller sizes but i'm trying to save a little $$$. Thanks again, -Mike

Does Batson make thier micro guides with a silver colored frame w/black ring? I can only find black framed Batson micro guides. Also, what type of ceramic is used for the batson micro's? Thanks, -Mike

Thanks Mike, so the "exacto" blade was like a triangle shape with cutting edge on both sides? Also was the bottom of the tube filed to allow the thread to climb onto easily? Or were there any tricks used to wrap the split section? Was the tip top adhesive applied as normal and was it cleaned up in between the "split" section? How far was it split? Was it past the bracing o

My apologies to Bobby Feasel. You wont know me by name but I stopped by your booth Saturday and asked for a demo of splitting a micro tip top. I got caught up talking to vedors and buying products and my plans had me leaving the expo @ 12:00pm on Saturday, I totally forgot to stop back by your booth for the demo. I hope I didnt waste too much of your time getting all the parts/tools together.

Tom, I didnt know that. I will go look on Pac Bay's site now and see if I can find any info/pics of the aluminum cap they are offering. You say that "many" companies are now offering this? Who else do you know of that has caps for big spinning seats? You can e-mail them to me if you prefer. I would like to look at some of these. Javelin_2@

Thanks for the suggestion James. I just talked to Mudhole and had them size one up for me and it looks like the size 14mm fits the outside diameter of the size 18 DPSD perfectly? I could fill the gap between the inside of the check and the blank with a peice of eva foam sanded to fill the gap and not stick out any further than the check!!!! I just ordered the winding checks. Thank you for t

I am building a spinning rod using a size 18 Fuji DPSD in a down locking position . The rod is split grip with no foregrip. The problem is I cant find a winding check to cap off the front of the seat because it is such a big opening. I usually use a small rubber check for baitcasting rods with no foregrip but none of them are big enough (circumference) to cover the size 18 reel seat opening. A

This blank is a good choice if your throwing small crankbaits. This blank has a very moderate action and medium to medium light power. I use this blank for shallow diving crankbaits, and small poppers. I bought it to use for worms and senkos based on the line and lure weight rating but that is not what this blank is built for. It is a great light crankbait blank for me, I have two of them built f

Yes, you should use an epoxy adhesive to bond the reels seat to your arbors and blank. I prefer Rod Bond for that purpose, but there are many other brands that can be used. -Mike

I'll say look at the CTS Elite Spin Tournament series, model 7'0" 4-6kg. Awesome blanks with no fiberglass and a perfect parabolic action.

My question for balance has nothing to do with a reel or a lure. I am only wondering if anyone has ever balanced a rod without the reel on it and acheived a level balance with no/very little tip weight, and not adding any additional "balancing" weights. I know you need to add a reel to fish with, I know you need line on the reel and I know you need a lure to cast to catch something when

I cant find the control center. Feel free to e-mail me @ javelin_2@hotmail.com. I want the rod to balance as close to neutral as possible WITHOUT adding any additional weight. I do understand the difference for feel bait rods and crankbait rods, my preference for both is a neutral balance before addi
