I have a question regarding balancing a Bass baitcasting rod without a reel on it. Where would you say the balance point should be? If using an exposed grip reelseat. Should it be right on the exposed blank on the reel seat (basically in your hand? Should it be above the reelseat (no foregrip)? I know that adding the reel will change everything but there will not be one specific reel used on t

Does anyone know where I can purchase these? I know of one sponser to the left who will have them in a couple weeks but I wanted to order a few now if possible. Also, if anyone has used them and can give me thier thoughts I would appreciate it. I usually use Matagi Aluminum checks but wanted to try and save some $$$ and still have a quality product. Thank you, -Mike

I have an '05' Triton TR-21X Dual console. I build all my rods with conventional guide placement (guides on top) for baitcasting. I always use at least the first two guides as double foot and I have never had a problem with guides getting hung up or damaged. However there are no "snagglies" inside my locker tubes. Any guide damage i've had has occured by trying to carry 10 or 12 at a

Rich, my suggestion isone of two models. Lamiglas XMG series blank, model - LMB843. This is a 7' blank that is a strong medium heavy power/fast action. I would cut from the butt to 6'6". These blanks are light and EXTREMELY sensitive. I think this is one of the best values out there currently for quality - VS - price. G-Loomis - Bass blank, model - MB783 GLX. This blank is also a mediu

Oh yeah, I would also love a better way to straighten guides, I hate constantly second guessing myself if the rod is twisted 1mm to the right or left you can never make yourself agree on what is straight.....Drives me batty sometimes... -Mike

I need the ability to make "molds" for handles. I normally only use 4-5 different handle designs (all eva foam) and It sure would be nice to be able to create my own mold that shapes the eva for me. Kind of like a mechanical mold, with sandpaper slots so you can change the grits out. This would save time and mess, if they had a box on the bottom to catch all shavings, or a shop vac hoo

Bryan. Your customer will be VERY happy if you use all XMG50 Lami blanks. I dont know what they use in that graphite but it produces an extremely sensitive (feel) blank. Give Todd a call @ Mudhole and discuss with him exactly what your looking for. Im sure he can give you the best suggestions. -Mike

I am not an expert on Lamiglas blanks, but I do know that in some models the line and lure weight ratings may make you think the blank is something that it's not. I wish Lamiglas would put power and action ratings on all of thier XMG50 blank ratings. I can garauntee you that you will not want the LSJ783 to throw Jigs, worms, senkos or really any other "single hook" application baits. It

I think the Lamiglas XMG50 blanks are outstanding. They are super sensitive. Thier are lighter models out there for the power/action but the sensitivity of these blanks is really outstanding. The main thing to look out for with these blanks is, depending on the power/action your looking for dont count on the listed line/lure weight ratings. For instance in thier "Fast action spin/jig"

I like Raymond Adams sugesstion. Sounds good and has a good tagline for your website or brochures. Percussion as in you can feel the vibrations (percussion) from the dynamite (your lures) on the other end, and more importantly the fish succumbing the the dynamite explosion.... -Mike

I could be wrong, but I think Matagi only carries St-Croix and Loomis blanks? Maybe they carry some other American blanks too. I dont think they make their own? What Japanese blanks are you looking for? Are you trying to see if Megabass or Evergreen sell blanks? -Mike

Try thinking of things that you feel will represent the type of rods you will be building. Are you focusing on super lightweight and sensitive, Mid grade with outstanding wraps and graphics ect...Start brainstorming and searching the internet for words, phrases and ideas. Maybe you could post any thoughts or names you come with and get feedback/alternatives. -Mike

Thanks for the link. I was reading about the excise tax in the library here and notice that Tom says to fill out line 41? I see line 41 says "other than fishing rods and fishing poles" and the next line#110 Says for "fishing rods and fishing poles"? Why would we use line 41 over line 110? I spoke with the IRS excise tax division and they told me to use line 110? They also gave

Also I am out of forms, does anyone have a link where I can print the forms out, I forgot to file last quarter....???? Thank you, -Mike

I have felt those handles and have wondered how they were made also. I am not sure but here is what it feels like to me. Seems like they may use the new "foam" material that was discussed in rodmaker magazine a few issues ago. Then remember in elementary school when you would take newspaper and soak it in some oatmealy mixture and then slap it on an inflated balloon, then once the newsp

Check out CTS elite series blanks, I think you will be VERY surprised....... The guy's at Fishsticks4u can help you out. If price is a factor then Lamiglas XMG50 for sure, but they have some funny line/lure weight ratings on the XMG50 models. -Mike

I was sceptical, especially after I realized I didnt have the right winding checks for two split grips...... Thanks for the suggestion on the Batson RX8+ Steve. I got two of the 812's built as my senko rods and they will get the brunt of the work up on Champlain so im excited to test the sensitivity on these blanks, the smallies will test their strength.... Now its time to go enjoy the fr

The winding chacks came in on Saturday. I have a second coat of epoxy to apply on a rod tonight then tomorrow night I will wrap the guides on the last rod and get a coat of epoxy on it. Then apply the logo on my lunch break wednsday and second coat of epoxy wednsday night. Looks like it will be done, even though when I bought everything for these last two rods I measured the reel seat and wind

Thanks Ralph. I've been using the sample I recieved at the show in February to bond butt caps and real seat arbors and it has been working/bonding perfectly. Has the scent changed at all? I kindof like the peanut butter smell of the hardener on the original rod bond.... Cant wait till it is available for sale...Any idea when we will be able to purchase QUICK BOND? -Mike

In my opinion/experience you would be much better off casting a 3/8oz lure with a blank rated to throw 1/4-3/4oz. -Mike

Thanks Thomas. My wife and I have been going up there the past 7 years and it is no joke that the smallmouth are BIG and plentiful on Champlain. I catch largemouth here in Va. all season but my passion is smallmouth, so Champlain is my meca. Tom, unfortunatley the winding checks I have go from waaay too big to waaaay too small for wrapping or reaming. I ordered the checks and hopefully they w

I hit the first and hopefully only bump in the road last night. It may ruin the whole deal.... I sanded grips for my two split grip rods and got them all reamed and fitted nicely, then went to grap the aluminum winding checks and wouldnt you know it I dont have the right sizes!!!! I ordered them immediately and will hopefully have them by Saturday. I finished the spinning rod last night and wi
