I've got black and white, but the gold/yellow color seems to be eluding me. I'm wrapping a rod for a 3 star general and I'm trying to get the colors as close as I can. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks, Terry

Looking for a friend. He's been checking around and since the introduction of the new SUR blanks, the SU's have become pretty scarce. If anyone has one they're willing to sell, please let me know and I'll pass on the information.

IS the permagloss option opaque? I've been told that it doesn't completely color the rod, but will give it a slight tint. I have a rod I need to color, so I'm liking this option if it's opaque. Also, would the tints from Swifty's marbling kit work with permagloss?

They're fiberglass. I haven't had a chance to see them in person yet, so I'm unsure of the components, etc. Hopefully he'll get back to me with that information. At this point I'm as curious as he is.

This is a question that was posed by a friend of mine: "I was hoping someone here could give me some insight into a couple of surf rods I presently have. There are no markings on these rods except "ATF" up near the reel seat. These are one piece, about 10' long, pretty thick at the base, but with a lot of flex overall. I have an OMCape 12' and Tica 12' and both are extremely sti

Someone else who was there to see the fish was telling me that it was so heavy the tail was cracking while it was hanging, so they had to move it to the ground to keep the tail from ripping off. Heck of a fish. I hate to see the big ones like that killed too, but hopefully the information obtained by the scientific folks will help preserve the other ones that are still swimming around.

Anybody got the specs for this rod? I picked up one today from FishSticks4U and I think it's going to suit a specific purpose that I've been looking for, but I would like to know the blanks specifications before I build it. Thanks.

Does anyone have a spool of National Tackle Neon Green Size D thread they'd be willing to part with? I have a heaver I need to finish up ASAP, and I ran out of thread, and Merrick told my supplier they're out of that color. I'm willing to pay a fair price and shipping if anyone is willing to part with a spool of it. Thanks, Terry

Last time I checked the Batson Dream Reamers were backordered from the manufacturer. Anyone know if they're shipping them yet? I'm pretty anxious to get a set of them.

I have always heard really good things about the Cape Fear blanks from the offshore crowd around here, but I would think the cost to manufacture a blank like that is the biggest drawback. I imagine is much more difficult to make than a standard blank that is rolled on a mandrel.

I'm looking at building a couple rods for kayak fishing, and I'm not crazy about using a rod leash, but I'm also worried about capsizing and losing my equipment. Has anyone ever thought about filling a blank with some sort of pliable foam or other material for flotation? I'm pretty sure it would affect the action of the rod, so it may not be a good idea, but you could probably get away with putti

I typically don't apply finish between the underwrap and overwrap. If I'm using CP, I get all the underwraps completed on the rod first, give them a couple coats of CP and let them dry overnight. Then I'll go back and get the guide wrapped on. Then another couple coats of CP for the overwrap, time to dry, and finish normally. Unless you're doing a tiger-wrap, I wouldn't see any reason for the ext

I'm looking for a 10' fiberglass 1 piece blank. I need it to work with 2-5 ounces, and be a medium taper rod. Those aren't hard and fast rules, but the capability to throw 4 ounces well would be great. It's going to be used for sea mullet, flounder, croaker, puppy drum, etc. from the surf. I've been looking but can't seem to find anything. Thanks, Terry

I just used regular automotive touch up paint that you can get from Advance Auto, and it's held up great. I put on two coats of primer and sanded each. Then 4 coats of the lacquer, first two sanded, second two wet-sanded, then 3 coats of clearcoat, all wet sanded. Took a lot of time, but the results were definitely worth it. The key is patience and preparation.

Other than something like an automotive lacquer, what kind of paint is good for this?

A Rainshadow SU1266 or 1267 would be perfect for this.

Check out the library section and look at the Fuji New Concept guide setup. I have two surf sticks I've built using this and it works like a dream!! There is other updated information in the forums as well, so do a search for it.

The RS1569's are my go to heavers. I chose 30, 25, 20, 16, 16, 16, and a 16 tip. You could also do 25, 20, 16, 12, 12 ,12, and 12 tip. I chose the 16's because I don't tie very small knots. I've gotten considerably better since I built the rods, and if I were to rewrap, I'd go to the second set size for weight purposes and tip recovery. I generally build the handle first, then tape the guides on

The Nail is an absolute beast of a rod. The average caster is simple not going to be able to load that thing to its full potential. There is a video of a Rob Alderman from Fish Militia casting a brick with it on YouTube. I got the chance to toss one a while back and with 8 ounces I could load it, but not very well. I put on 10 and 12 and tried that. It felt like it was loading pretty well with bo

I agree with Mike. I remember the article in the magazine stating to use boatbuilding type epoxy, which will wet out the grip much better. 5 Min Epoxy isn't going to work very well and would probably yellow pretty badly over time.

I was lookin on another fishing forum earlier, and a guy posted about having a worn out ferrule, and that his rod would come apart while casting, and that it was always loose. A couple of folks suggested rewrapping the ferrule with a very high amount of thread tension. Has anyone ever heard of this? Supposedly it will squeeze the blank and reduce the diameter of the ferrule thereby giving it a ti

Thanks Tom. It was a very poorly done custom wrap job already, so I don't know what this blank started out as. This is a 1 piece rod as well. I did notice that the Fenwick logo and labe are actually metal of some sort inlaid into the rod. Never seen anything like that before!

Hopefully, somebody out there knows the answer. A buddy of mine gave me a rod he picked up for 10 bucks at a yard sale to rewrap for him. Well, I got the old cork tape off and I'll be darned if it isn't a Fenwick fiberglass 1026. Not a bad find for 10 bucks! Anyway, the beginning of the model number is gone but I think it's an FB1026 or FS1026. It's F something, I know that. Does anyone have any
