Tightening a ferrule by wrapping?

I was lookin on another fishing forum earlier, and a guy posted about having a worn out ferrule, and that his rod would come apart while casting, and that it was always loose. A couple of folks suggested rewrapping the ferrule with a very high amount of thread tension. Has anyone ever heard of this? Supposedly it will squeeze the blank and reduce the diameter of the ferrule thereby giving it a tight fit. Sounds far fetched, but I'm definitely a newbie, so I'm very curious about this one. All that I can say on this subject is a test that I did once for myself.
I put a two piece blank together and put masking tape right on the male part exactly where the female part fit on it. I wrapped the female ferrule with a lot of tension and then re-checked how far it fit on. It was over 1/8" away from the tape. So in my mind, yes, it could be done. Whether or not that kind of pressure is going to be detrimental to the ferrule on up the line is another story, though. I took that thread off, backed off on my tension, re-wrapped it and it fit very close to the tape marker. I went with that... Putter Williston, ND Edited 1 time(s). Randy's idea works. You might try using some Permagloss on the male section. Generally what causes a loose ferrule is slidding it on and off, instead of twisting it on and off.

Not the best way to do it, in fact, that's a bit of a "hack" job in my opinion.
Find out where the ferrule fit is poor - is the female end loose at the bottom, or the top? The proper and permanent fix is to slightly trim either the bottom of the female ferrule or the top of the male section to allow the two pieces to properly mate together. If the male section seems to be bottoming out in the female before the ferrule comes tight, trim a little off the top end of the male section. If the female section seems to bind tight but the sections still "click" or feel loose, trim just a bit off the open end of the female ferrule and recheck for fit. ................ Edited 1 time(s). Tom,
Which method you use to define the kind of mismatch in the ferrule? Rogerio Re: Tightening a ferrule by wrapping?

Put it together and take a hard look at it. If the female end appears tight on the male, but you can discern a click or movement, then the male end isn't extending far enough up into the female to seat at that point. If the male end seats but you can see the female end is still a bit open, the male end needs to be shortened a bit.
