Can anyone identify this?

This is a question that was posed by a friend of mine:

"I was hoping someone here could give me some insight into a couple of surf rods I presently have. There are no markings on these rods except "ATF" up near the reel seat. These are one piece, about 10' long, pretty thick at the base, but with a lot of flex overall. I have an OMCape 12' and Tica 12' and both are extremely stiff compared to these rods.

These aren't actually blanks, since they have been wrapped and such, but with no markings other than the ATF, I really have no clue what these are and who makes them. Thanks!"

I've searched the net pretty good, but have yet to come up with anything. Does anyone here have any ideas?

Thanks,
Terry

What type of reel seats and guides are on them? Could be custom rods, or from a small commercial facility. If you can date the components, you can probably date the rods which will be a big help.

Terry,
can you identify the material? It sounds from your description as if they are probably Fiberglass, what color are the blanks?

Todd

They're fiberglass. I haven't had a chance to see them in person yet, so I'm unsure of the components, etc. Hopefully he'll get back to me with that information. At this point I'm as curious as he is.
