I might add that since Gudebrod changed their formulas on the 811A they have totally ruined it unless they came out with something new but if they are still using the 811A on their bottles they are mis-representing their product....if it smells it is solvent based, if it doesn't it is water based and neither is even close to the original.

Might add here...those size power saws to me are scary. Make sure you have a very fine tooth blade and mask off the cut off area...a cut off blade is perfect if you have one. If this is your first time cutting a blank I would use a mini hack saw and mark your masking tape all around the blank and rotate your cut as Jason suggests...Just the smallest snag on a big power say can do in your blank.

Ted....In my opinion Chrome-a-Seal is the best...Then comes Flex-Coat....Gudebrod used to be the very best on the market and why they ever messed with it is beyond be. You put it in the right place if you poured it down the sink ,maybe it cleaned out the drain a bit.

Matt...Roger is right on...the key word is "penetration"... with WOOD it must penetrate...CORK is another story. I have tried numerous ways and found that on WOOD that if I used exterior polyurethane {two Coats} followed by a light coat of Flexcoat Lite, this looks great but then so does multiple coats of Tru Oil, Polyurethane etc. The poly plus the Flexcoat is alot less time consuming

Billy has hit the nail right on the head....as soon as Shimano got their hands on the Loomis name they brought their axe with them and the looping off of Loomis blanks began and with it there was nothing new coming from Gary Loomis only what Sly-Loomis has been passing off at big bucks and living off the GOOD NAME of Gary Loomis....I must have built a couple hundred of Gary Loomis rods and sadly

When Gary Loomis left Lamiglas to be out on his own he became a Guru of graphite .... YES he did bring a world of innovations to the rod builder but all that came to a screaching halt when he started selling the business off to Shimano. There has been nothing new in the G.Loomis line ever since. I will never SLAM Gary Loomis in any form but Shimano has been living off his name and in my {I said M

Roger....I at times in the past had the same problem but for many years now have had no problem....I also wipe down my blank etc, but where my lettering goes I always put a very light coat of finish, and upon the finish drying I will scuff it with 3M and then letter, after the lettering has dried I put a couple light coats of Krylon Crystal Clear {making sure I mask off for over spray} and I have

Matthew....Harold is spot on on his advise but I might suggest after you have wrapped your guides to run over the thread tag ends lightly with a alcohol lamp or a cigarette lighter and this should get rid of alot of the thread tags sticking up, then apply cp and / or finish.

Gary....May I suggest contacting Cal Star with your questions to be on the safe side. I am not saying someone on this site does not know what to do, but all your suppliers are usually more than willing to offer their expert advise.
Be aware that your warranty may be void as soon as you cut down any blank and yet at times I was advised since I cut a small amount from the end there would be no

Hi Newbe Pete.....I mix up a jug of denatured alcohol with a few drops of liquid Dawn dish soap and was my hands often, I also use this liquid to wash down all blanks I begin to work on. I would not advise washing down any un-finished threads. If you are concerned with dust on the threads you can use a tack cloth...but make sure you get the tack cloth with no silicone or waxes in it....your paint

I second Toms motion on inventing a tool for guide foot....I use a Dremel belt sander but the ideas Tom has sounds like the way to go.
I made a tool for finding degrees that fits into the reel seat with a small hole in it for running line thru to static test which works but could use alot of yankee enginuety {spelling}.
