Ditto the Capt.
Guess we both come from the old school when the spatula was not used for rod finish that we were aware of...back when brushes were used.
Jeff Shafer stated "quality brushes" not the throwaway type, and if anybody sees any of these anywhere for 100 @ $10.00 please let me know
and I will share with the oldies that still use brushes.
Everyone to their own tastes

122. Re: A can of worms?
Tom...Like Ken Finch says "opening a can of worms"...I asked for clarification of your opening statement to Ken in which you stated that if a person has a legit business and has not bought a booth or space he was not allowed to wear a shirt or hat with his company or business name {as you said "plastered on it"} and I have said that you have no right to tell a person what he

Tom....Not once did I say I was upset about any of these inside rules you have...I stated my name on my shirt above my pocket which is small and is not bold as you stated nor does not have flashing lights, bells, whistles etc. I also find this in very bad taste. And I also doubt very much that Dick Posey or Gary Loomis would ever show up decked out like you say...but if they did you have no right

The Capt. is right on....I use denatured alcohol after wiping the finish from the brush and follow up leaving it sit in brush cleaner suspended off the bottom of the container using a clothes pin...my brushes also last a very, very long time...when I am ready to use my brush again all I do is wipe the brush off with a kleenex and like Capt. says no evaporation or smell and also no contamination c

Tom......A can of worms seems to have been opened here....I do understand where you are coming from and that fine line you mentioned will more that likely be trampled upon. I am un-able to attend but I would like to understand a few things if I am able to attend in the future.
1. Are you not supposed to have some sort of a notification advising show attendees that they are unable to wear certai

Tim Campbell.......Very true about TRULINE and fully understood that these are all Hexagon blanks but I do not recall a M80 series by
TRULINE and the question by Bill Lane was about TRUELINE nor was there mention of these being hexagon rods or blanks...If so hold on to those as they are excellant rods/blanks and are time tested especially for tuna sticks. In the early years all of your bigger re

Trueline was a product of True Value Hardware better than 25 years ago as I recall....I sold a few of these puppies, they were made in fiberglass and a fine rod in their time but in todays world they are "dinosaurs" if I were you I would check into selling these to a collector and use the cash to buy todays products.

132. Re: REAMERS
Have been there and done that on any and all type reamers....30 + years ago used grit and made my own, along came ready mades with grit on them, threw my hand made away, next along comes finer type grits, threw the heavier grit wands away, now less chance of scarring blanks but can happen, next step comes the strips of sand paper, made my own using contact adhesive on solid blank pieces, worked

134. Re: Cleaning EVA
Very touchy but can be done.....I used Jasco Epoxy Paint Remover, using a small paint brush and only on the epoxy glue or finish, softening the epoxy , then , using a Q tip and lacquer thinner , let it dry and sanded with a nail emory board, and lastly turned on a lathe using a fine sandpaper. It does take time but can be done.

Anglers Workshop has always had the very best cork available to the rod builders....In twenty plus years of ordering I have NEVER been un-happy with their cork....I can not say this about most of the suppliers on the market today....Fillers, Fillers and more Fillers....My feelings are that the suppliers are using there own standards of cork grading.....Tom is the RodMaker cork scale to which you

I have to go along with David Gilberg on this post...I feel that if you are wanting to invest that sort of money and be able to do all the projects you speak of then the Renzetti is the tool and the Pro Lathe [ or similar] can handle the heavier work . I think that if you need any assistance David would probably be more than happy to help you out Carl ,as he has the full set up to do all your re

YES...CP is a must if you want to retain the color that is on the spool....If there is another way of retaining that spool color PLEASE let us all know.
I let my customer select their colors and if they say they want the color to look the same as what is on the spool they get it. True many rods are made with no CP or using NCP but the color of the finished product is not the same. What is good

It is now close to thirty years ago {I Think} that I got one of the first Clemens {Renzetti} lathes and am still on the original motor. I did go to a solid state foot control when they first came out {Dremel} and ALWAYS use the pulleys as Tom suggested. Dayton makes the best there is in motors and if you have a friend who belongs to Grainger Supply you can get them cheaper than retail. You will b

143. Re: EVA Butt
Alex...You can use a piece of standard EVA with hole size to match your blank, turn for your shape and extend the butt cap appx 1/2 inch beyond the end of the blank and epoxy a butt plug into the end and you wont have to worry about the softer EVA getting buggered up. Serves its purpose and looks good too.

Rustic Touch is a fine product and really works...I have used it, it does the job BUT you can buy from automotive supply stores other products that do a better or comparable job for less money and no SCAM as Uncle Russ says...I myself find that Meguires Scratch X and also Birchwood/@#$%& Gun Stock Wax is still hard to beat under all conditions.

TOM.... The truth is that as far as I am concerned the better dealers still do...Mudhole, AnglersWorkshop,Merrick,CUI,Sevier,Utmost to name a few...all one has to do is inquire and in doing so at least a person can advise him of a catalog or not...It is called common courtesy.

I have sent appx. 8 emails to CTS requesting a catalog from them over the past year...I always felt if they list an email address they should make dang sure that it is accepting the customers emails as not everyone wants to use the telephone...I always ask them to confirm when I do email and have never had a problem with any of the numerous companys I have ever delt with on this type of matter.
