Right on Jay...I also use "ONLY" the straw...The hair dryer picks up suspended dust in the air
I have used every kind of finish made and have had no problems with my own "hot air"- exhale that is.

Hey Bob ...You done opened that can of worms and being one of those "oldies" [30 plus years] I fully understood
where you came from.
If it was not for the questions from the newer rodbuilders what would us old goats do ?????
Lets start a 30 plus club and write about how bad our spelling is.

Jeff and Kevin....When I wrote I must have been drinking that alcohol, I did not follow up by saying that the alcohol takes
the residue off but to use a softening agent afterwards. I use a leather-vinyl cleaner product which keeps them soft until
the next go around. The best way to go is "Buna N' I fully agree.

Jeff....I wipe my "o" rings down with denatured alcohol quite often but do at times have
rings, I use a good carnuba base wax on all my rods and this takes the mark
out and ONLY after you have finished the rod.

Wes......
I do not think there is any weather problems affecting your Flex Coat...I have used this product in all temps
from 22 to 108 and on all species of wood I have used Flex Coat and Aftco on I have applied
two coats of Gudebrod #811 and after each coat I lightly sanded the wood with
wet or dry...then applied the finish, again lightly sanded the grip and applied the second coat of fi

Yes...all of the above is correct so I will add my two cents...I have been in the wood business for over
50 years. I have tried all of the above and all seems to have worked...I have sanded, sealed, sanded,
re-sealed.etc, etc. I have done many wood handles old and knew and came upon the easiest most
perfect way for me. I do my sanding and then add two coats of Gudebrod color preserver by finge

Billy V is right on in his post ...being on salt water all my life if you don't want any corosion titanium is the only way to go.
I would like to see an outfit come up with a alconite titanium also for the light surf casting especially .
When I am wrapping for someone I ask them what they want and what their pockets can afford. ALL guides are good and
with a little up keep knowledge offered

Patrick hit that one right on the head....I will throw in my two cents. If this is a fairly light coat you are trying to remove do as Patrick says with the hair dryer then take a wettened soft rag with alcohol {denatured not gin or vodka, thats for later} and rub the area lightly. I have always had this work for me in the past. Then I sit back with the other alcohol and admire the work.
