If you can find a local tackle shop that builds/repairs rods, chances are that they'll sell you a spool or two.
I've found that, with present shipping rates, that their prices are very comparable. C2

I agree.
I have also bought a set of artist spatulas from the craft store to use for applying guide finish. C2

Maybe they should be called 'Belly Butts' because they do nothing but extend the butt a few? inches. I really feel no need for them..
Real 'Fighting Butts' were long pieces of blank that were removed for casting, and inserted to make the butt stiffer for fighting the fish; thus the name. JMHO . C2

I have offset my butt guide at about minus 5 degrees now as a force of habit but can't remember why I did it in the first place.
Reason for question being: I wrapped a rod just yesterday with no butt guide offset and really couldn't see any difference.
Something like spine? C2

To date myself somewhat, I started building bamboo rods in my Dad's shop where there was no electricity and everything was done manually.
We used a rod wrapper made from wood. the tension device was a brush, and we dried the varnish evenly by turning the rod from time to time; again by hand.
We had a foot operated lathe and hand operated drill press. We also had a vast array of other woodwo

I've never used the waxed paper tip; rather using paraffin from a candle to lubricate the blank before inserting.
I will 'borrow' the idea for my next rod. Thanks. C2

You're looking for a Plate Type Reel Seat. Fuji makes one and several vendors list them.
An interesting read:

I wrapped a spinning/fly rod combo and put a tamer guide on for the fly position. It also helps casting when the rod is used in the spinning position. C2

Why not? Choose a reliable knot to make the connection then go for it! C2

I have tried fluorocarbon line for leaders and find that I catch just as many fish with mono. It's a lot cheaper; as well, C2

Same here. On some personal surf rods, I use coasters with cork tape grips. Simple but efficient. C2

FWIW; I read somewhere that a same length wrap using A size thread is stronger than using D size thread because of the number of turns of thread in the wrap. C2

I'm with Tom here. This guide was probably located using some chart.
I doubt if you will ever flex that rod that close to the tip using any weight line. JMHO C2

I'm glad that this was brought up.
I made an 8 foot spin/fly combo that works quite well in both configurations.
I built the spin/fly handle from a piece of Aluminum tubing flared on both ends with a seat and a short piece of EVA for the fly handle configuration with a long piece of EVA to act as a handle in the spinning configuration when reversed.
I use it with 6lb test mono and a fly

Does anyone, besides myself, remember the discussions regarding the use of Future Floor Finish(Wax) as a finish for fishing rod guide wraps?
I have exhausted the search functions of most rodbuilding forums with no success.
Thanks in advance. C2

You get what you pay for. If you're buying 'seconds', expect them to be 'seconds'. Some imperfection made them this way.
If you're buying top of the line blanks, expect them to be pretty close; like an 1/4 of an inch.
You are correct in that you can do wonders with a butt cap.
Better yet; buy a 'blank stretcher' JMHO C2

28. Re: USED FOR?
I have some 5.5 feet casting rods. I use them with heavy line to drag big fish out of the rocks/mangroves.
The short rod helps when skipping a bait/plug back under the bushes that hang down almost to the wtrer.

I have a 15 foot 3 piece spinning rod that I no longer need. I will sell cheap!
I am 6'7:" tall and weigh in at 300 lbs. I used to cast this thing out and take a short rest. I would then slide baits attached to my 8 foot fighting rod the rest of the day.
On the other hand; I don't pier or trolley fish any more but do OK with 13 foot rods on the beach.. I spiral wrap them because even

Sounds awfully like @#$%&'s Thread Tension Device.
Speaking of tension: I was in a discussion last week on whether a guide thread could be wrapped tight enough to cause a rod to break. Personally; I don't think so. I think t
