Hi all,
I came across this little item that I thought people might find interesting. Not sure how effective they are and whether it can be purchased. [www.fishing-otsuka.co.jp] Not sure what the rules are about posting links to other websites. My apologies. Re: easy rod painter

Very interesting product. I have built such a device years ago. Learned about it at a Rodcrafter Seminar. It worked. That being said I would purchase one of these to try if available. Capt Neil Faulkner Re: easy rod painter

Make your own from a piece of PVC and some kind of rubber(plastic?) membrane. C2 Re: easy rod painter

There is a similar, yet different, device in the upcoming issue of RodMaker.
The problem with the tools featuring some sort of rubber or plastic membrane, is that the particular material used, and the hold sizing, is absolutely critical to get any sort of decent results. ................ Re: easy rod painter

I get the impression that if the blank has an aggressive taper, you might get good results at the tip but then you would be wiping off the coating in the butt area. The last time I coated a blank, I taped off the area from the reel seat down to the butt, and the are acovered by the tip top. I held the blank horizontally with a clamp and used a saturated cotton t shirt to wipe the spar urethane from butt to tip. I then rotated the rod by hand in 90 deg increments (took approximately an hour). After 24 hrs, i wiped it down with 0000 steel wool, cleaned it and repeated three times. Worked fine.
