I bought the Pacbay a year os so ago and wouldn't be without it. I've even come up with a tension device that I can use to convert it to a hand wrapper if I need to. I'd like to buy an ECO wrapper as well for small jobs but they are not available over here in the UK. They use piano wire to tension the thread, does anyone know what gauge wire they use? Thinking about building something similar

Thanks Darrell, That's where I've got the idea, it's just a way of making a permanent tool I'm after. I've looked at the Dremel tool which works great, but the tool stations that hold it are really expensive over here in the UJK. Philip

I agree Ron, that's why I'd like to mount a small chuck onto a spare motor and mount in a seperate place as I like the idea of using a low totque motor rather than a Dremel type tool. Philip

I have the idea to attach a small cutting disk to a sewing machine motor as supplied on rod wrappers to use as a grinder to dress guide feet. I could I guess use the wrapper chuck itself but I like to keep all dust and dirt away from the wrapper. Does anyone know of a small chuck I can buy that would fit the 1/8" diameter motor shaft, maybe a model makers one? Does this sound a daft idea o

Is the wire retained by a plastic bush in the housing? If it is, then you'll need to release it. Philip

Hi Hank, BVulldog clips are used in offices to hold sheets of paper together and come in a variety of sizes and strengths. They are made of a sprung steel open tube with 2 small levers attached to them which are used to open the clip up. They cost pennies over here in the UK. Here's a link showing them. Philip

At the risk of "Teaching Granny to suck eggs", I use a bulldog clip to hold a double edged razor blade to cut the threads when wrapping. Just thought I'd share with you all as it really is the safest, simplest way to hold the blades. Philip

Just rewrapped a couple of guides on a rod for a friend and used CP as I like to ensure the trim bands stay put once I've managed to get them done. Now the epoxy has dried, the thread is a brighter colour than the existing ones and I seem to remember if you dont use CP the thread tends to darken, is that right? Philip

I'm sure this has been done before, but what's the best way to clean up a dirty cork handle on a fly rod? Philip

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, still looking though. Have been in contact with the manufacturers in China but as yet they've not replied. I'm trying to understand who buys these things in and then assembles the mixers etc. someone somewhere must be the source, unless of course all the suppliers buy in from China ready assembled. Philip

I've been looking at removing the drier motor and replacing it with a tensioned pulley, using the one from the drier motor itself and mounting on something similar maybe to the thread tensioner, has anyone tried this maybe? Philip

Has anyone tried to fit a tension device to the PacBay wrapper. I like to use it as a hand wrapper sometime but would like to have a system where I can hold the chuck whilst I tie off a wrap etc. I know I can leave the belt on but it worries me I might be damaging the motor by forcing it around. Any thoughts? Philip

Hi, I'm trying to find a source of 24 rpm synchronous motors to build epoxy mixers here in the UK. I've read one of Tom's articles in volume 6 #4 from June 2003 where he suggests MECI as a good source and found them here in the UK, unfortunately they can't help, so where do you guys get them? The slow rpm ones are readily available over here as they are used in microwaves etc, but these 24rpm

I've e-mailed @#$%& twice recently with no reply, are they still trading? It would be expensive to call from here in the UK to find out. Philip

Hi guys, can you help? just received a new wrapper motor for my PacBay and notice there is approx 1/8" float on the shaft. Is this normal? The original I have has next to no end play and I'm worried the pulley will throw off the belt when it kicks in. Philip

I'm not sure what the rod has yet as I've not seen it. The guy has e-mailed me saying it's an Enigma EMG fly rod with a loose reel seat. If it has a wood insert the job gets a lot tougher I guess. I'm trying to get ahead of the game and work out the best way to get the old seat off as I've heard of using boiling water but not sure the best way to go. Philip
