You will be fine, make sure when you set up the rod that the spacing between the stripper guide, the transition guide, and the first running guides are set up at the recommended distances apart. If you are planning on building a rod longer than 7 foot, get a few extra running guides. Good Luck, you will love the set up.

The Bushido Blanks are not heavy, they are one of the best bangs for the buck blank on the market. The CB72/8-15 is crank bait blank is probably the best purpose built blank out there. I really like the CB78/8-15 for my Lews MB and I throw 8 lb Fluorocarbon on it. My personal favorite is the Spin Jig blank for light lines. SJ72/ 4-8 is the best small bait blank I have ever fished. The Sp

Bushido SJ72/4-8 is perfect for this kind of fishing. Throwing small flukes, jigs, small Pop-R and Raps and small slash baits is where it really shines.

A couple of years ago, I had Larry Lee of L3Rods (916-962-0616) cut some line for me for a switch rod. He has a formula that he used to cut the line specifically for my rod. I was using a blank that he had used before, and had a formula worked up. I told him what I needed, and said he would put the line together, (180g Scandi head for a 7wt 10'6" switch rod) in the mail. I sent him a c

You can do it, but the reel will load line to one side of the spool. The guide moving probably has more to do with the casting angle and individual casting style. With a single foot guide as the stripping guide, I am guessing that you are building a light rod, 3, or 4 wt. Long Cast are usually not the norm with these guys, but the line loading on the spool will be quite noticeable.

I agree with Vic, the Microlite ice blanks from Janns are a go to favorite with my clients. Get the tip tops that Janns offers for these blanks, the action of the blanks is Moderate, the the blanks are very sensitive and transition well after the hook set. I will often cut a couple of inches from the butt section of the blanks to build shanty rods to 28 inches, and the longer blanks are a favo

Why not go with the MicroWave 30 set, with the Nanolite rings. Lighter, stronger, and better line control?

Use a little bit of guide adhesive (low melt glue stick) to hold the guide in place, that helps.

What are you mixing the epoxy in? If you mix Rod Bond or some of the other paste epoxies in certain plastic mixing cups, it will go into super cure mode, and get real hot real quick, and almost cure before it is used. Also found out the hard way, not to put LumiSeal into plastic cups... Oops...

I have been building light fly rods with single foot strippers for a while. They work fine on lighter rods.

The Nano X, and Bushido Fishing line, (Both the Fluorocarbon and the 8 strand braid) are really worth taking a look at. The stuff is remarkable.

Try putting it on thick and let it drip, then spin it fast to smooth out.. Vic Heal gave me that little tip.

137. Re: Sanding rod tip
On a solid blank, experiment with sanding the tip section flat with a dermal tool, or sander, rather than going around the blank. Going around the blank will heat the blank up and put torque on the fibers. Try and use a single foot fly guide as the tip top. Try it on a practice blank first. Make a little jig by cutting a shallow grove in a board, and laying the blank in the grove, so that

Janns Netcraft has a series of Ice Jigging blanks, I like the 31 inch jigging blank, and the 39 inch blank which is a little stiffer, when someone wants a longer rod, I will usually get the 39 inch blank and cut off some of the blank from the butt end. The blanks are solid, glass/graphite and work very well for jigging, and they will not break the bank. Call them and talk to one of the guys the

If you want to try something new, i think Jim's suggestion of using the Winn Grips is a good idea. The tacky feel is really good in cold weather applications, and the feel is nice.

I have built both. If you pack or travel, a 4 piece is nice, but for around here,(Lower Michigan) I build a bunch of 2 piece rods. If you are building a 9wt, I suspect that you are going after salmon, or somethingg from the salt. Most of the spinning rods built for that type of fishing are 2 piece rods, and 9+ feet long. Anglers find a way to get around with them. Most of my bass/pike/panfish

On ice rods it will work fine. I have even used it to fix splits in old solid glass ice rods as a temporary fix . I perfer lumaseal over perma gloss because it is not as hot.

144. Re: Odd Request
I agree with Tom and Gary, a sealing coat of lumiseal or permagloss would lock in the guides and thread, and not change the look of the rod much.

146. Re: New Blank
I should have added, I throw 1/32 ounce jigs with plastic skirts with these rods, and they perform remarkably well. Handling everything from panfish to pike, with confidence. The tip is not blazing fast but the entire blank is very sensitive and very forgiving. I also use it to throw wacky worms, and small crank baits. I have been using Nanofil, but recently changed to Bushido braid, and the

I have built with both, Nanolite, and Duralite. I also have build with the TidalWaves, which are titanium and titanium coated versions of the microwaves. I like the Nanolite with it's thinner ceramic insert. When the AirWaves' come out, I will be building a bunch of ultralight rods with them.. Waiting for the call from Don...
