I use the Bushido Braid exclusively. I am a pro staffer for American Tackle, but I am also an avid fishermen. I am picky about what line I use, and when the line came out, I took a shot at it. I have never looked back. I use the 10 Lb test Combat braid on my spinning rods, and have a crank bait rod rigged with it also. My big bait rod is rigged with 20lb braid. It is an 8 strand braid, and

American Tackle's Bushido BF 904-4 is a Moderate Fast action taper. It should fit the bill very nicely. The blanks are straight and light and strong. I have built on the BF 793-2 and the BF 804-2 blanks for personal use, and the BF 804-4 as a blank for the folks at American Tackle, remarkable is one way to describe them.

I have been using single foot strippers on the light fly rods, 4Wt and down. Titanium Titan single foot guides in size 10 or size 8 (NIRLF-10, or NIRLF-8) depending on the build have worked out very well as stripper guides. No problem with damages and they sit close to the blank, as Michael mentioned, I see no advantage to the guide sitting far off of the blank.

Try one of the Bushido SJ 72/4-8. Weightless flukes, and wacky worms fly from these blanks, they are sensitive enough that you will feel the slightest tap, yet load deep with a hook set. I have never felt out gunned using mine on Smallmouth and Largemouth, pan fish and Pike.. Straight, strong and tough blanks to build on. The finish is mat black.

Try a American Tackle Bushido CB78/8-15. Hands down one of the best Crank Bait blanks on the market. It loads well, and you can feel and see every tick. For bigger/deeper cranks the Bushido CB78/10-20 is a good choice.

For me, it is not so much about balance as reducing weight at the tip end of the blank. Handle length can go a long way in doing this, as can the correct guides and placement. MicroWave guides are wonderful for reducing weight at the tip end of the blank, while not sacrificing rod characteristics. Airwave guides, or TidalWave Titanium guides are even better.

Bushido DS69/4-10 is the perfect blank for Big Lake, clear water Smallies. I run 10 lb test Bushido Braid to 6lb fluorocarbon on my drop shot rods. Straight, strong, and very quick tip make running a drop shot sweet. I run a lot of light jigs, and really like the Bushido 72/4-8 for that kind of fishing. Both blanks are impressive.

I would have posted earlier, but I was stream brown trout fishing my SJ72/4-8 Bushido yesterday, while my MHX sat against the wall. Light, Straight, Sensitive, and durable as heck.

The Janns MicroLite blanks are good blanks. I have built a bunch of ice rods on the 31 inch pan fish blank. They are a solid blank with an orange pointed tip.

On the spinning rod guides, From the lip on the spinning reel, I measure from the highest point of the large guide ring, (19 1/2 inches.) The most critical measurements are from the 1st guide to the 2nd guide, and from the 2nd guide to the 3rd guide (first running guide). The highest point on each guide gives me a constant to measure from. One thing I know about them though, is that you wil

Give a serious look at the new Bushido Fly Blanks from American Tackle. They are light, straight, durable, and sensitive. They recover very quickly, but are not screaming fast on the tip, which makes them act like blanks that cost $$$ More. These blanks offer serious bang for the buck. They are also priced very nicely for the quality of the blank you get. I posted on one that I built about a mon

Phil, you have me interested too... How do you tie the locking wrap on a double foot guide. Can you post a photo? Why not use single foot guides to reduce weight?

Take a serious look at the Bushido Fly blanks.. A 5Wt blank should be just fine, most rods will handle one weight line up or down from their suggested weight.

I just finished fishing with a new Bushido 4 wt two piece fly rod that I built for the Michigan Rod Builders gathering two weeks ago. I knew the blank was nice, light and not screaming fast in the tip like some other blanks that I have built on, but I had no idea how really nice this blank fishes until last night. I put single foot guides on the rod, and used a single foot stripper guide for th

Give a call to Rod Components USA. If they don't have it, they can make it. They will quite often have painted Aero reel seats.

Thank You Tom for the Rod Builders Stickers. We had 45 members show up at our 5th Annual gathering, and our Sponsors were remarkable. Don Morse started the first one several years ago, and we have built on that success. Rod Builders from Indian, Ohio, Canada, New York and All over Michigan came to make this years gathering a joyous event. Presentations and workshops were the order of the day

Just putting the epoxy on an 8' 4Wt. I dry fired it without any epoxy, and it is very nice. Loads deep, and is not screaming fast on the tip. I am going to bring it to the Michigan Rod Builders gathering on Saturday, Lord Willing..

American Tackle Matrix AMSP 600 is 5 foot long, and the AMSP 661-2 is a two piece blank that is 5'6" long. Also the 721 -2 is a two piece blank that is 6' long.. They are fun to fish, and will not break the bank.
