I work for a major outdoors chain.. What I find is that most broken rods break it two place because of two different things. "High-sticking" the rod when the butt section of the rod is pointed straight up in the air while the tip section is forced to bend down towards the snag or fish breaks the rod usually three guides down the blank from the tip.. and reaching up the butt of the b

How about using a 9 foot 5 wt flyrod blank. I am sure that you are not throwing a huge bobber, one of the IM6 two piece blanks would probably work just fine,.

Both are great blanks. My choice is the SJ72/6-12. My favorite blank it the SJ72/4-8 for panfish and smallies.

Cabela's is about an hour away from Langsburg, Michigan. Cabalas is in Dundee Michigan, US 23 and Michigan 50. If you come up through Toledo, you will go right by Cabela's on the way. Check out our Facebook page, Michigan Rod Builders.. There is information available there.. Hope to see you on the April 2nd.

Use a razor knife to cut along the side of the guide, and cut off the old guide threads. Take care not to cut into the blank, the thread will come off in strips.

I will sometimes place small dowel rod, or even an Ice fishing blank into the tip sections, and arbor them with masking tape so that they fit snug, and then use that in my dryer. A little tape where the ferrule lays over the ice blank will help if you happen to get epoxy on the inserted ice blank.

I have a American Tackle Bushido SWB710/12-25 coming in the mail as we speak. Rated for 3/4-3 ounce Mod-Fast Heavy. This should handle anything that Michigan can throw at it..

I would venture to say that the best kit to buy is the one that gets you started on building.

I agree with Vic, we have both been building on them for quite a while. Here in Southern Michigan, they have became extremely popular. The Microlite 31 inch blank has an orange tip section, and 2/64 tip tops are also available from Janns. If you want a longer blank, build onto the end section with a short section of graphite arrow shaft, or an old section of a rod blank. They are a solid G

Get a set of Microwave guides and follow the placement guide provided with them. On the longer rods, extra guides are available, and a suggested guide spacing is provided with the set. They work wonderfully.

Yep Mick, I am a Pro Staffer for them, but then again, I believed in the products before I ever got into contact with AmTak, and I still do.

Parts that are not available on shelf rods, for instance, MicroWave guides and Aero reel seats stand out as selling points. Colors and blank choices also stand out, and I am a fan of the Bushido Blanks.

I use the SJ72/8-15 on Erie, it is a great Blank for all around walleye fishing out there. Nice tip for jigs, and a ton of backbone, in the event a stupid sheephead or Catfish decides it wants some action.. great sensitivity, and power when you need it.

If it is a decent blank, the straightest axis will be on the spline. It is a simple step, and worth putting the time in with. Lots of schools of thought on the issue, some blanks are really responsive, and others do not seem to care.. It is your call.

Take a long look at the AMT Bushido SJ72/ 4-8. Great panfish blank. If you are looking to build on a fly rod blank, you should look at a 7'6" or 7'9" 3 or 4 wt. The 2 wt blank will be really soft. To keep the build light, and responsive, look at the AirWaves guides, and add a couple of running guides to your build. Good Luck

I have started to use the use the Flex Coat rod guide adhesive, and have used low melt hot glue, both work. The problem that I have is that my fingers get hot on occasion, because of the heat that I apply to the guide foot, , and my close proximity to the flame.. CA will sometimes turn white under the guides, and that is not good. It only takes a tiny bit to hold the guides in place with the a

I like some of the more moderate action fly rod blanks, but a 5 Wt would be the standard for stream trout and smallies. Also, a rod will usually handle one weight heavy and one weight light in its design. Some of the line is 1/2 wt heavy weight forward, and it will load up pretty well. I like to use single foot guides, simply because they do not require as much winding. Build 2 rods and keep

Keep it simple. 2 piece fly rods get around just fine, unless you are packing in.
