Just going to throw this out there, for those who are concerned about line twist.. Try using aTitanium MicroWave 18/8 stripper guide on your flyrods, and then run single foot titanium running guides.

I am in the slow process of building one using a MicroWave 18/8 stripper guide, and all #8 Titanium framed Nanolite single foot running guides on a 13 foot blank. I have used the Stanley's ice off paste, and it helps keep ice from building up. I also have used Rain X on the guides too, and oddly enough, it helps too.

The American Tackle Bushido 69/4-10 drop shot blank is a great choice. Set us as either Spinning or Casting will work, but usually spinning is good. Drop Shot fishing usually does not require long cast, more of a dragging the bait along the bottom kind of fishing, but it does require a very quick, responsive rod. Sounds like a perfect snare rod, With no need for a wire spring bobber. Run one more guide on it than you think it needs, and let it flex while slowly loading up. The fish will hook themselves with a minnow and a single spilt shot on the line. Paint the tip bright orange or even better, make an epoxy ball on the tip and die it fluorescent orange or put Glow Powder in the epoxy mix.

The American Tackle Bushido SP68/4-8 would be perfect for Mepps spinners. It is rated for lures from 1/32 - 5/16 oz so there is a lot of room for different lures. It is perfect for Smallies.

Those MicroWave Air guides that were referred to as "stamped junk" are tough as nails, and light weight. Good enough for "Lews Rods" to use on their MACH Speed Sticks.

Check out the Face Book Page, " Ice Rods-Tips and Tricks" A little trick I use is to find a small (size 4) glow bead that is a touch larger than your tip top diameter, or ream it out a bit, and then slide it between the tip and the fly guide or guide you are using for the tip. secure it with a touch of super glue, and let it set up. Then go over the whole thing with Pro Paste mixed

Vic is right, There are a lot of options available for you. Personally, I prefer a solid glass blank, because of their durability, flexibility, and price. Janns Microlite blanks are one of my go to blanks. If you shanty fish, typically a rod in the 24-28 inch length works well. The Janns blanks come in 31 inch, and you can trim from the butt. Take a good long look at the American Tackle Bushido SP 68/4-8 for your Ned Rig rod blank, The price is right, and the action is about perfect for Ned Rig fishing. This blank is quickly becoming one of my favorite blanks to fish Ned Rigs with. It is rated for 1/32 oz to 3/8 oz, and is fast action, so feeling a tick is easy. I have used the ProWrap Glow thread on several rods, and it works just fine. I use it on two of my personal perch rods for Lake Erie, and I have used it on a bunch of Ice Rods. You would not be able to tell the difference between the ProWrap Glow thread and regular ProWrap thread. To give it a little additional glow, I will mix in some glow pigment into the finish when coating the threads.

Back in the late 70's I had Dick Swan build me a one piece 8 foot rod for casting tiny jigs with, He called it a "Bike Rod" . Dick was a school teacher in Clare Mi. and was the pioneer of the Noodle Rod , (at one time I believe he held many Line Class world records for salmon and steelhead). A great blank for that kind of fishing is the American Tackle Bushido SJ72/4-8 . It was born for light line smallmouth bass fishing. I have built several rods on this blank just for Smallies in the River. It is great for throwing light jigs and small cranks for bronze backs. Another blank would be the Bushido SP68/4-8, both blanks are reasonably priced, and perform beyond their price range. B

Try this American Tackle blank, the Bushido DS69/8-15 It is an Extra Fast Blank that works very well for multiple applications in the Walleye fishing department. Mine will see action this fall *Lord Willing* on the Saginaw River when the fall run starts to heat up.

When I use the High Build, I will pore it out on foil, and then spread it thin while i pore it out. The High build will have a much shorter pot life, but will cover is a single coat. Mild heat and blowing on it with a straw will also work wonders. Don't put it on too thick.. and let it do its thing after once it is applied.
