I like the low heat adhesive to stick my tiny guides on... My fingers are too fat sometimes... I use it on Ice Rods because the blanks are so thin.. It works well. I also have used rubber tubing and it works too. The locking wraps are a given too.

187. Re: Winn Grips
I have built a couple of rods with the Winn Grips. They are really nice to fish with when the weather is wet and cold. The wetter they get, the sticker they become. The feel is great. I built spinning rods, and used the split grips with ATC Aero reel seats. I have noticed that the grips do not like to be tucked into the back of the reel seat because the outer shell on them will bunch up a bi

On average, the Composites are far more flexible and in my humble opinion, more durable. Ice fishing exposes the equipment to the extreme elements and abuse by the very nature of the sport. I like using the microlight blanks from Janns Netcraft as my primary pan fishing blanks.

Microlite blanks from Janns Netcraft work wonders for pan fish. I rig them with single foot light wire fly guides and a stripper and their 2.5/64 tip tops. I also use the foam handles they sell. Light, sensitive and tough,(and they will not cost you an arm and a leg. )

I usually use a # 8 stripper guide and then go to light wire # 5 fly guides to the tip.

There are instructions in the set, like Chad mentioned. I measure from the handle end, as suggested in the instructions. I have found that there is some room for placement of the butt guide, within reason. The distance between the butt guide, transition and choker guides is most important, make sure that they are the correct distance apart. If you have a longer rod than you may have t

193. Re: Microwave Guides
How about trying the Tidalwave hybred guides. Best of both worlds,- Titanium and Titanium coated SS versions the standard Microwave guides. Using the nanolite inserts. They are Light and Strong and change how the rod feels through out the cast. I like how the microwaves perform on my spinning rods, and would suggest them to anyone.

195. Re: rod case
I am using an Flambeau Bazuka, but had to drill one extra hole in the case to let it expand to fit the 7'2" rod I just built, but it will go to 7' already. cost about $50.00, but found it on sale..

Thanks Don! Bill, I am going to clean off the rest of the flat black and go with glossy. I wonder how the grips will hold up if they see gasoline or bug spray on your hands. Guess time will tell.. Love how they feel though.

197. Aero Comfort Grips
Well, in my 'not paying attention mode', I got some epoxy on one of the new AT Aero Comfort Grips, and tired to use a small amount of acetone to remove my slip up... BAD MOVE.. the acetone stripped the comfort grip finish and left it looking like heck..Don't try this at home kids... Any Suggestions other than "don't do that again"?

Try to build it on a Microwave guide train, then if you get tired of the Pfluger, or find a spinning reel that you like, you can just switch over from there. The Choker Guide Placement will be the same on for most of the rods you build, and they work very well. I love them on ultra light rods, ( usually 7' to 7'6") rods.

the American Tackle Microwave set comes with a stripper, a stand off guide and 7 running guides. a 7 ft rod will use them all. I think the running guides are size 4 , but correct me if I am wrong.. I used size 3 running guides on the K guide set up. Both the 7'2" and the 7' rods have 9 guides on them.

Line oscillation stops at the stripper guide with the ATC Microwave, which is nice, but the "K" guides offer more choices for running guides sizes after the initial guide set up. ATC's come only is sets. I have used both, Like the ATC's

208. Re: Ice rod guides
Janns sells a wire tip top that is fitted for their microlite blanks. It works pretty well. I use single foot fly guides on mine. Tape or rubber band the guides on and start from there. Good Luck. RK
