The good folks at Component Systems In Wausau Wi. sent me a couple of samples of the powder that they use to color their paints, I mixed it into my epoxy, with really nice results. The only colors that they sent me were chartreuse, and blaze orange, but the color that they added to the epoxy is remarkable...tinted the epoxy without making it cloudy.

I agree with Norman, the U-40 Cork Seal will add some additional feel to the cork, as well as make it easier to clean up when fished with.

If you want to have fun with an Ultra Lite, try building on a 3 or 4 wt flyrod blank.. Also, the Bushido SJ72/4-8 is a really fun blank to build on, even though it is a lite action blank, it is a pan fish killer.

They are very good blanks. The CB72/8-15 Is excelent, as is the CB78/8-15, that I built as a personal rod. The CB78/8-15 was build specifically for a Lew's MB, and using 8lb. Fluorocarbon. It was buuilt using MicroWave casting guides.

I have built on, and fish with, the American Tackle Bushido SJ72/4-8. This blank is really fun to fish, not to soft in the tip, but not a buggy whip either. I have used it on gills, perch, crappies, bass, and pike (and the occasional carp). Pitching everything from tiny jigs on 4lb nanofil to small crankbaits to wacky worms, this blank comes through. Give it a good look.

I agree with Russel, if you went with a winn grip, you could remove the old grip and reel seat and strip the guides off, and have a project rod to build that would not break the bank. If something gets out of wack, you can cut it off and start again. No harm, no foul.. some new guides and a little spit and polish, and the old rod would be back in action, and you would have a great start on build

I fish 4 lb. Nanofil through Microwave guides all the time. The system will let you move up or down with line wt, or reel size and still perform consistently. I would go to the 2 lb on my spinning rods if I could see it..

Try an Aero real seat with solid arbors, and what ever rear grip you prefer. Using either a 6061-2015 black Betty or a tear drop black Betty will get the job done with no line twist. Single foot fly guides and a fly tip top would be my choice, and I would use a fluorocarbon leader attached to nanofile.. or straight Fluorocarbon for that matter, as it will load the rod slightly because it does

Years ago, I was looking for long ultralight rods to fish for pan fish with. They were not available so I built one on a fly rod blank. I got the parts from old rods, and used over the counter epoxy finish.. It was ugly, but worked well. In recent years, more and more manufactures have developed blanks for such a purpose. and guide and handles have came a long way. I love the idea of using c
