Anyone have an idea of the blank weight for this 6'6" med light blank?
CRB Value E-Glass Freshwater Rod Blank FIS782ML
Mudhole says it is 11oz (seems high) and no response from CRB.
Thanks,
Rick

I often print a negative waterslide decal applied over metallic thread. No epoxy over the thread layer.
When I apply a positive decal it is always over a gloss blank or a thin layer of epoxy.

My notes show this blank rated 1/16 oz to 5/16 oz. 280 grains is 0.6 oz (equivalent to a 10wt line).
I can't predict how it would behave, though I agree it will slow down the CCF.

A fly rod with an AA of 75 and extremely fast recovery will disappoint most fly casters. Making it a short 7' rod doesn't help either.
Good luck in your search.

S842-2-MHx ERN: 9.8 AA: 75
My "customers" use them for trout in lakes up to 7lbs.

Lighter in weight, no rust, cool looking. What more do you need?

I built an 8wt rod for salmon and steelhead using single foot guides for use with a multi-head system and found that even though the guides were large enough the loop-to-loop connections still got hung up when stripping right to the tip-top (which is required when fishing for certain species.
I stripped off the single foots and replaced with snake guides with the same diameter. No more hang-ups

I don't know the rivers in Juneau so the answer depends on how wide and fast the rivers are.
I toss spoons in Southern B.C. rivers for coho and I find that the Mudhole ST1022-MHx (8'6" 4-8lb,3/16-1/2oz, ERN 10.4, AA 75) is too light for even medium sized Chum.
It is fine for coho and pinks.
I built a casting rod for a buddy for steelhead, coho, and chum using XST1263F (8-12lb, 3/8-3/4oz

Looks fine. Just smooth the last wraps with your thumbnail to make the line straighter.
Too tight is indicated by being unable to adjust the guide after wrapping.

AmTak TItan. I use the NIRVL model on my smaller weight fly rods and have had no issues in the salt.

I built a spey conversion to pin rod using a (discontinued) Batson RX6 11'6" 6/7wt 4pc F1166.7 blank and it works great, flexing right into the butt.
ERN:10.16 AA: 68
I would look for something similar if you are looking for a 4pc.

Yup. It looks light for a West Coast pin rod. For larger rivers you want to toss at least 20-25g floats, and this blank will max out around 15g.
For great lakes or east coast rivers it should be a great solution.
The XST1383F Rainshadow blank has ERN: 10.0, AA: 66 for reference and it's about as light as I would go for wst coast steelhead, for example.

Nail Polish, light curing epoxy, etc are all too hard and will crack. Rod Building epoxy is flexible.

I use the method described by David Rogers in this post: Quick, cheap, and extremely effective.
Unfortunately the PDF file link no longer works.
Basically the following steps:
1. wrap a bright metallic underwrap (silver/gold)
2. design your logo using a tool like GIMP. Faded color regions look especially nice. It should be slightly wider than your underwrap.
3. print on clear watersli

I would be really surprised if a 12wt fly line with a knot will pass through a size 1 guide.
Most rods 10wt or higher would use at least a size 3 snake guide as the smallest. Sage SALT uses size 5 guides for example.

If fiberglass is that much cheaper then why are some glass blanks $350?

What needs to be improved? I find that manufacturers often "upgrade" their blanks in the ongoing search for customers who want the latest and greatest but often make them worse.
The XST1263 is the best NW Steelhead casting rod I have ever seen. I can't say how I would improve it.

Just far enough to get it oscillating for at least one minute. If it slows significantly before 20 seconds is up you'll get an incorrect reading.
Try several different offsets and you should see that the count doesn't vary by much.

The extra height of the size 16 guide might help a bit with shooting line pooled below you, but I think the extra cost and weight (even if minimal) will give no benefit.
A size 12 dropping down to wire guides would be optimal.

Mudhole blanks:
F904-2-MHX $84.75
F904-4-MHX $102
Not sure spending the extra $17 qualifies as aristocratic.

Yup. You see lots of used 2 piece fly rods for sale. No benefit over 4 piece and a pain to travel with.

No offense, but who has given them a 4 star review? I haven't heard of anyone using a Bushido fly blank.

You're right - the numbers do not lie.
As I said, the trick is to find a slow action steelhead rod.
Here are my Steelhead rods.
Rainshadow XST1263F: ERN = 12.55, AA = 78. This is built for levelwind float fishing.
