I'm at my winter home in FL and re-wrapped a store bought rod with Minima guides. All my stuff is at my N GA home, Flex Coat, dryer, etc. so I coated the wraps with several coats of Hard as Nails nail polish until I go home in a couple of months. I fish with the rod. Re: Does anyone do this?

Since you are in Florida it shouldn't be hard to get flex coat or another finish. Build a drying stand out of a cardboard box. Turn often for a couple hours then less frequently. You can do that while you are home at night. If the hard as nails worked and you are happy with finished product then it's good to go. UV exposure overtime might affect it's appearance or begin cracking. I use that product to coat saltwater bucktails. Good luck. Re: Does anyone do this?

Light curing epoxy is a lot faster - about 1 minute to harden per wrap, and all you need is sunshine to cure it - in FLORIDA! You will have a clear, non-yellowing, permanent finish on your wraps, as good as two-part, slow cure epoxy. Twelve bucks should buy you all the "thin formula" LCE you need for the job. Nail Polish, light curing epoxy, etc are all too hard and will crack. Rod Building epoxy is flexible. Re: Does anyone do this?

LCE comes in a flexible formula, but in my experience thin formula LCE is as flexible as two-part, 48-hour cure epoxies. If anyone has had LCE failure due to cracking I would like to know the details before I use it again. I hate to wind, finish, unwind, scrape, rewind and refinish rods. That's why I would rather not use nail polish as a temporary fix if I don't have to. Re: Does anyone do this?

I would use the product made for the job. Google is your friend. They might even stock the Flex Coat brand in a store like Walmart. Do an internet search in your general area for tackle shops, etc. Call some and ask if they have any of the correct product, or if they know where you can get it. I'm sure you can come up with the correct product if you look. Re: Does anyone do this?

We sometimes use our 5 Minute Epoxy Glue to quickly fix and repair broken guides. If done right, it even looks good and lasts. Flex Coat Company Professional Rod Building Supplies www.flexcoat.com Re: Does anyone do this?
