31. SJ842-MHX
I've had a request to build a 7', Medium/Light/Fast spinning rod. Has anyone used the SJ842-MHX (Mudhole) blank and if so, you or your customers opinion? The end user will be using it for light jigs in deep (30'+) water.
Also, many thanks to Denny Kaneoka from Seeker - He was exceptionally kind and generous to my Grandson and me at the ICRBE! I look forward to taking him fishing the next ti

Looking forward to the Expo - just wondering if there is a Floor Plan for the exhibition area and training rooms? First time for me and it would be great to know which way to go when the doors open.

Don't forget to use mono backing otherwise the braid will spin on the spool.

Looks like a case of IMPACT damage caused from a blow, strike, drop by either the fisherman or in transit to you. The failure showed up in the anglers hand but was born before that. At least that's what it looks like when comparing it to the pictures of rods broken for testing in the RB Magazine 2 or 3 Issues ago.

Check this out
Just found this article 2-days ago - haven't tried it yet so can't say it's foolproof - but - sounds like it should work well. I use the following procedure:
My shop has exposed rafters 7-feet high - I use a quick clamp to gently clamp the butt of the rod to the rafter - this leaves the tip down. I dip a foam brush in the coating/varnish/PG then (wearing latex gloves) hol

I agree - along with the article, they had a picture and the tape was not wrapped lengthwise but around. Page 4, Bassmasters, July/August 2010. A test is the only answer, as always.

Thanks for the reply - I was hoping you would!
It's nothing I would consider but found it interesting. The picture in the magazine showed the tape wrapped around the rod, not lengthwise, but that could have been a misunderstanding by the magazine folks. LOL, there is no duct tape on my rod bench!

Found this in a recent issue of a popular fishing magazine:
"Despite the complex materials and components that go into modern fishing rods, a simple trick will stiffen one's action if you find yourself in a pinch. Johnny Poff, a developer and engineer at All Pro rods, has 20 year's experience in the rod-making business. All Pro and other rod companies use this technique when fine-tuning

45. Re: Thread Color
I really like NCP green with a thick red trim band (use scarlet nylon and coat with CP) and thin gold band. Looks great on a green blank.

How about a CD inserted into the Magazine mailing?
Just a thought - I've seen it done before.
Cheers and thanks for your dedicated work on our behalf.

Chris,
Orange is really tough unless you use an underwrap of silver or white OR Paint under each wrap with silver or white. I've built two Univ. TN rods and painting the rod blank under each wrap got me what I wanted. Either way, I can't stress the importance of good packing - orange is just quirky IMO. Even using the NCP Orange on a dark rod can sometimes not be enough if you're looking fo

I've built about a number of Spiral/Acid wraps and IMO, they cast further then conventionally wrapped guides.

I agree - you only need enough pigment to color the epoxy. Best of luck.

There are some pink blanks - some of the sponsors on the left can help there. If you have to paint, your guess is correct - I made my Grandaughter a pink rod using a white undercoat and pink fusion paint and permagloss. Whether that combo will hold up in the salt is the question.
Cheers and good luck

I've read many posts here concerning the application of Permagloss to rods that have been either painted or stripped - they include using foam brushes, cheeze cloth, etc. Today I found my perfect applicator...make up sponges! Yep, the little triangle foam's used to apply women's make up. I've never seen a post about them (been a member for about 4-months and also a subscriber to the magazine)

You might ask the sponsors to the left how may readers (not "members") have purchased from them ONLY because of this site being available to anyone and everyone. If this site is sacred in some way, I suggest the web master secure it with a code only memebers can access - then - ask the sponsor "how's it goin' for ya?"
