painting blanks.. pink blanks

A friend of mine wants some 7' pink rods for his wife's birth day that they will be using a TLD 20 w/ 30lb mono, and pulling dead baits for dolphin, sails etc off the east coast of Florida and bump trolling live baits. He also wants a vertical jigging spinning rod in pink. I have searched all over the place and can't seem to find the blanks needed.

What is the best paint and the best way to paint a rod blank? OR is there a pink blank you guys can recommend?

I was thinking about krylon fusion spray paint. I'm sure I would have to spray a thin coat of white (over the black factory coat), then a thin coat of pink and then a few coats of perma gloss?
Anyone have any tips or tricks for painting rod blanks???

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!
Garrett

Do a search on it Garrett. There's quite a bit of information on the subject of painting blanks on here.

Good luck with that. I bought an airbrush on the weekend just for that. Haven't tried it out yet though.

cheers
Harold

There are some pink blanks - some of the sponsors on the left can help there. If you have to paint, your guess is correct - I made my Grandaughter a pink rod using a white undercoat and pink fusion paint and permagloss. Whether that combo will hold up in the salt is the question.

Cheers and good luck

Garrett,

Pink rods are great! The lady's and kids love them.

For the dolphin rod we offer some offshore pink blanks right out of the bag (reasonably priced too), check out the 7M model at:

For a vertical jig rod, your not going to find a pink one. We do offer vertical jig blanks, but they are a glossy black finish, you could scuff up the finish with a 3M pad or 400 grit sand paper and paint it with Krylon paint (not sure if is comes in pink however). The black vertical jig blanks are at:

FYI - we also offer pink blanks (blue, green and camo also) in a lighter fresh water / light inshore blanks at:

Good Luck with your build.

Regards.

Thanks guys!

I have built on some of the mudhole colored blanks before. I really like the 6'6" 14-18.
I would like to hold the pink e-glass one next time I pick up an order.... that might work if it really is a FAST blank.

I'm going to give the painting thing a try on a jigging blank. I'll let you all know how it works and holds up. It will be awhile before I start.

THANKS AGAIN!

Hi, Just a few ideas about painting a pink blank. I recently painted a 4/5 fly blank for my wife. From a friend in the auto/body shop, I used two coats of primer, two coats of pink paint {special mix I asked for something like "mary Kay pink} and then 2 coats of clear coat. Problems included, even scuffing of blank, and even coats of primer, paint and clear coat. I used an air brush. It was difficult to paint without a revolving table, had to walk around without raising any dust, etc. AND if it is a two or three peice rod, be careful not to paint the male furell, guess who did that?. Result is a great rod, lime green and orange thread, holo. guides, pink ivory real seat. I t was an experience, would a I do it again, I don't think so.
