Ryan: I have noticed the term Gen2 being used for the NFC blanks. Does that mean that there are 2 generations of NFC blanks or the "old" loomis stuff and the new Gen2 NFC stuff? Joe

Roger: Understood, I'm asking because I've seen various reports about different builds and wanted to see if anyone was in love with any particular blanks and if so why? For example: Phenix ? any feedback? Northfork composites Rodgeeks? Rainshadow? Hydra was mentioned (thank you) but why? Just hoping for some more feedback. Thanks

I know I'm opening Pandora's box in asking this question, but I'm searching for the BEST/Highest quality/lightest/most durable blank available to builders. To borrow from Tackle Tour, "The One" My personal favorite is an old GLX blank that I built. It has been nothing short of amazing, but obviously can't be replicated. Again just for a reference point I'm talking about 7' MH,

Aren't the Tour Star grips made by Winn? Why would there be a difference? Just curious.

For what its worth. I have had terrrible experiences with it because it won't hold a line to line knot. I tried everything I could think of...albright, modified albright, back to back uni's, surgeons loop. They all failed way to easy. I suppose if you're going to fish it tied directly to the lure it would be ok, but if you're planning on using a leader it's worthless. In my opinion

I just read and article that started a train of thought. Just for quick info the ratio is 1:1.618 and is called Phi. This isn't new but it's very interesting. This group of builders might really latch onto this. So how could this ratio be used for rod building? Could it create the next big thing? Who knows but this should be great food for thought. Here's a link to the arti

I've built 2 dropshot rods on these seats and they are really comfortable for a spinning reel. I've turned some cork down to the diameter of the seat and it turned out great. I'm in the process of my first casting rod set up. Great seats. Joe

That's interesting. I'm curious why a moderate or medium action would be better. (i'm not saying it's not, just curious) There are a lot of "spinnerbait" blanks that are more of a moderate blank, my question is "why"?

Alright, here's a can of worms to open up. I'm looking for a GREAT spinnerbait blank. I wanted to get some feedback before purchasing a bunch of blanks only to have them not fit the bill. So my opinion (nothing more than that) is that a 7' to 7'3" medium heavy to heavy blank would do nicely for 1/2 ounce and 3/4 ounce blades. 12-17lb line and a fairly fast action. Am I on

Thanks for posting your results. I had my suspicions all along. I thought it would be very cool to have a black set of cork grips.

I've been pondering the the idea of dying cork with various things and wondered if anyone has already attempted this and what were the results? I know this is a broad stroke question, but feedback would be great.

On that note, has anyone tried the new Fuji skspm split seats? Seems like a pretty good design from what I can tell.

It seems the Tennessee handle is "really" going to be my next personal project. I'm going to have to look at the aero and the size 18 and 20 fuji ergo seats. Thanks a ton for the feedback, I've got a lot to think on now.

Joe- I'm a little confused. How do you wrap it and dry it with the reel attached? Seems I can't "wrap" my mind around that. ha ha

Mike, Do you ever have problems with the reel slipping or moving with that handle? I've built some ice rods with the Tennessee style handle, but not full length rods.

Jim, out of curiosity, why the 18 size instead of 16? I've built several of these but only in the 16. This seat with the threads up and a half wells grip for the remainder is really comfortable, but again I'm not completely sold on it. Joe

Just curious what others have determined to be there "go to" spinning real seat for bass fishing. Not exclusively a drop shotting rod, just a "general purpose" seat. I've built multiple spinning rods for clients with several different configurations, but i'm not completely sold on anything... Any feedback would we greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Joe

I have a buddy in Southern Utah that paints some very nice seats for a couple of custom builders. If you're interested shoot me an email and i'll give you his info. But just remember before changing black. BLACK is beautiful!!!!!

Thanks guys. I did put the 2500 size on there and it worked fine, but that's not the reel he's using. The size 30 sounds like a viable option. tamer guide, hmmm i'll research that.

Here's the situation. I've built a rod for a guy and he loves the handle and work i've done on it. (MHX sj842) However it doesn't cast "smooth" with the size 4000 symetre he's using. . I've tweeked it and rewrapped it and for some reason I'm not getting the performance or "smoothness" that I want/need for this guy. I've set it up with the 27x method and i'm wondering

As a bass guy i've been looking at the different seats available in the size needed for the Seeker 706sb blank. 25cm from the butt end of the rod the diameter is 18.18mm. My question is which reel seats have you guys been using and/or what options are there? I've seen multiple seats that run that big, but I've yet to build a rod that needed a seat that large. In addition can a size

I've been searching online to find a source for the Pac bay Minima guide, but I can't seem to find them listed anywhere. Which sponsors are selling them? Am I missing this? I've searched the forum and can't seem to find the info. Any help or links would be appreciated. Thanks Joe

If you wrap too tight, those little buggars will pop out quite easily while you're in the process of wrapping them. I can't be the only one that's had them pop!

Rolly: Thanks, I've read about everything there is to read about the "new guide concept system". I also build my rods using what I consider the "new guide concept system" but this chart has got me thinking. I wonder if there is a way to quantify in performance the downside or upside of the "aesthetically pleasing" layout. Has anyone gone down this road?

Correct me if I'm wrong. The New Concept guide placement system is purportedly designed for better performance, yet every post I've seen in this thread alienates the idea of using more guides. The chart in question is designed around laying out the "concept" system. Whether or not it's aesthetically pleasing is irrelevant, what I'm picking up is that the concept system is a f
