Has anyone ever attempted to paint or epoxe the reel seat hoods on an aluninum reel seat ? I am doing a rewrap and trying add a little color of the new threads instead of all black.
Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
Tom

JP did the hoods on seat with the hydro printing at the ICRBE seminar and they looked VERY sharp.

Yes , I've shot reel seats / hoods , using many different colors / types of paints . on chrome hoods I found Krylon X Metals paint does a real fine job , it is transparent so the chrome / stainless shines through for a nice effect I've even used it on chrome guides . Just mask off what you don't want painted and shoot . I've done this on all aluminum seats shooting the whole seat , on graphite seats just doing the hoods , it comes in an assortment of colors , red , blue , green , purple & gold . I always shoot a clear coat to preserve the tint . As far as the reel seat most any color spray paint will do just mask the hoods , I just shot some solid black seats with" cameleon color" paint , it works well on the black seats as no base coat of black is needed , it comes out pretty cool ! Take an old reel seat and experiment . Paint experimentation is fun , and can make a nice accent to any rod project . Good luck & enjoy ! Larry

I have a buddy in Southern Utah that paints some very nice seats for a couple of custom builders. If you're interested shoot me an email and i'll give you his info. But just remember before changing black. BLACK is beautiful!!!!!
