Thanks Tom,
I am not doing anything fishy. The first rod I built for a friend I did have them buy the components and I then put it together. It just seemed easier for me to go ahead and get everything. Guess I better stick with having them buy the stuff. I am running out of friends who want a rod built anyway, just be the grand kids and family. I have felt pretty good about buying stuff and s

If I order the components needed to build rods for myself and friends, they then pay me for their share of the components ( much like we do when we order anything related to the outdoors, one person orders for all and then is repaid) and I then agree to put the rods together for them at no cost because I enjoy doing it, there should be no tax if I read Toms story correctly. Right?, Because the t

Good suggestion and a very good reason for me to purchase a heat gun. I was very surprised at how well the blemish healed itself before final setup was done. I just don't have an ideal location for rod building. My garage is very multipurpose and contamination is my biggest problem. I try to finish early in the morning after wiping down any dust from the alleyway next to the garage and washing d

I just dug 2 flys out of the finish of a rod I have turning. Do I have to wait for the finish to set up completely before I fix or can I mix up some fresh finish and dab on where the flys were stuck now. The finish is tacky yet but not really flowing. I sealed up the garage and sprayed for flys I suppose the spray will do something to the finish now. Should of sprayed the garage before beginning

I am sure looking forward to the article on finishing. Since I began this hobby last winter I could write a book on sags, bags, ripples, bubbles, nubs and waves.

Morel mushroons, they start popping up in the spring when the leaves on Oak trees are the size of squirrels ears. They are just wild mushroons. Roll them in cracker crumbs or flour and fry in butter. Boy are they good and even better if you have a mess of crappies to go with them. There is about 2 weeks in the spring when they appear, then you have to wait till next year to get em again. Luckily m

What an afernoon! Come home from work, finished wrapping the guides on what was going to be my last rod for a while so I could focus on fishing and mushroon hunting. Then I decided to go ahead and put the finish on. When I was almost complete I realized I had never aligned the guides. So I aligned the guides with wet finish on them. Everything semed to be Ok. I was turning every so often by hand

Hi folks, I just started this very addictive hobby this winter and would like to thank everyone for the wealth of information I Ihave received from this site. It has become my second home next to tinkering with rods and my new lathe. Now for my problem. I have been finishing all my grips with Tru oil and then with a couple of coats of Krylon Matte Finish spray. I had this spray left over from spr

My Pioneer lathe was delivered by semi truck last evening. I set it up so I could run it and make sure everything works and it seems ok. Its nice and quiet and the variable speed worked well. I still need to build a bench to mount it on and receive some lessons from a friend before I really get into using it. I am new to rodbuilding and now turning. The few grips I turned were from a drill press
