121. Shikari
I have a rod built on a Shikari SWR CB-843 blank that a friend made before I started building myself. Does anyone know of a blank that is comparable to this. I use it for pulling crankbaits and 3-way rigs in the Mississippi river and love it. I built on an IP 844 and its ok for the 3-way but the action is a little stiff for the crankbaits.
Thanks
Steve

Yea, thats what I meant by mixing it with everything. I block it on the band saw, turn

Thats my primary go to cork. I bought a big block years ago to carve duck decoys. I mix it with everything. Its pretty blah just by itself.

I have settled on 3 coats of Tru Oil and then I buff out with Birchwood Casey stock sheen and conditioner. It gives the grip more of a satin finish.

I use metallic for guide wraps and have had no problems, even on well abused crappie stiks that are poked and prodded in brush piles to save that 4o cent jig.I do use the Forhan wrap.

Go to the library section and read the article New Guide Concept for spinning rods. It contains very good information for guide sizing as well as placement. I am a fairly new hobby builder and I reference the article quite often.

Rainshadow XSW68MX and XSW62MX work great for vertical jigging up to a 1 oz jig for river walleyes. They are a bit longer than 6 ft. though.

Thanks for the pics. I was considering doing my next build the same. I have a friend who likes hanging onto the foregrip when jiggin for walleyes. I think this setup would work well.

137. Re: Abstract Grip
Is there a trick to reaming eva out to fit the blank perfect? It about did me in reaming by hand. It seams like you have to do a lot of reaming to remove any material. Also I glued, drilled and turned all in the same day...is that Ok?

138. Re: Abstract Grip
Thanks Tom for the suggestions and to Billy for taking the time to have a phone conversation with me. I cleaned the grip and used masking tape to try and pull some of the bleeding out of the colored foam. It did help. I am thinking the quality of the hobby foam I am using may be part of the problem. I made a foregrip last night and was cautious not to be too aggressive with the coarse sandpaper

139. Abstract Grip
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I am sanding down an Abstract EVA grip following Billys instructions from the last issue of RodMaker, but can't seem to prevent the black eva from bleeding into the lighter colors. I kept dipping the wet sandpaper in water and buffed with demin, but I just can't get the vibrant greens. Is there anything I can do? Hoping Billy will chime in.
Thanks Steve

140. Re: Cork Clamp?
I built a clamp like Mikes only I used rod bond to fasten the wooden pieces to the clamp versus drilling and bolting.

I mix matching cork cork dust with 5 minute epoxy and plug the hole. I then clean up and smooth out with rag dampened with alcohol before it sets completely up. No sanding needed.

The least I have done is 1 coat of cork seal and it seems fine. I Like tru oil the best. I have used up to 5 or 6 six coats and then burnished with stock sheen. The most recent builds for the grandkids I settled with 2 coats of tru oil and then burnished. I would post some pics but don't know how.
