I've built quite a few 843s both XSB and XMB. I have also built several XSB 842 for shakey head guys which love the blank for lighter line say 10 lb. maybe 8 lb on small bait casting reels. I personally use a XMB and XSB 843. For the money they are hard to beat. I have used the RX7 in the same blanks. There is quite a bit of difference in these blanks and the RX8. Great blanks but

On occasion, I will mix a batch and have a mass of bubble form in the cup, very seldom, but it happens. Sometimes I chunck the cup and start over sometimes I work with it. I do not mix with wood, only metal. 3 minutes max. I pour out into a sheet of alum foil in a metal plate. I get rid of most of the bubbles at this point. I roll the mix around and will use a straw for most of the bubbles

Buzz, I would have interest in any discussions. I have built for several fishermen with shoulder and spine problems. Nothing yet for hand or grip problems. I found a great deal of satisfaction providing this type of help. Mark mmarshall9458@charter.net

I can find out if it was a custom rod. It just so happens we live in Tennessee so Orange is a often requested color. I've seen the red and blue All Star wrappings and have a 6'-10" in a blue and silver but it is not near the age of this rod. The butt section with the decal and rod info has a matted look which I have seen on Falcon rods but not All Stars. This makes me think it was a

The tooling marks are too consistant. I'm seen raised glue joints and there is some of that going on here as well. The tooling marks go from the grip to the butt cap. I'm not for sure it was done after the fact. I do know this is a one owner rod. A gift from the wife.

Today I received, to rebuild, an All Star rod that has some items that I have not seen before, so I am asking for any comments you may wish to make. 1. The rod is a telescoping rod, 6'-6" long, SCM is on the label. The label also says it is 96% graphite. 2. The thread is orange with silver trim. It has one casting guide with the rest being spinning guides. 3. The reel seat had the

Mike the XSB listed above has a little thicker butt section in the RX7. I can't say about the RX8. I would say it is a little light for a 1/2 oz spinner.

I have made several out of XMB783, RX8, 6'-6" for several guys who really like them for spinners. If you are looking for a little more economical blank try the same blank Michael mentioned above except in a ISB805.75. It is an RX7. I use one for my own personal spinner bait rod... It works for a little lighter baits (1/4 oz). It is classified as a spinning rod blank but I put a cast

I use Chromaseal and have noticed that if I use too heavy of a coat, (and I normally use two coats on madeira) I will get either a dark or a milky splotches. I normally try to wick away any heavy build up I notice. A coffee filter works well for this part. I apply the CP with my drying motor running. I had this problem with some Fishhawk maroon thread recently. It was an builder problem no

I have recently replaced tips and the first 2 guides on several Fenwick rods from different customers. I cannot say for sure if they were Minimas but they looked like Minimas 3s. These rods were bass rods with a lot of braid line used with the rods.

I have built several XSB842 for guys who shakey head fish, 1/8 oz , 8 to 10 lb test with light casting reels. I use a XSB843 myself for shakey head fishing with slightly heavier line and lure weights. I'm guessing the XSB843 is going to be just a little heavy. I can tell you it is a very good all purpose rod blank for the money. I have never built on a RX8+ blank nor have I used the upper end

Jeremy I live about 45 minutes from Kentucky Lake, (Paris Landing area). Sorry on the Tennessee side. I have about 60 rods being fished on KY lake. Would like to be in the loop. I started fishing these two lakes in the early 70's and have never stopped. Started building about 4 years ago.

I cannot comment on MHX blanks, I have never tied or fished one. However I have built and fished quite a few RX7 and RX8s of the same length, line and weight specs. There is a significant difference in the RX7 and RX8. I am speaking specifically about Bass rods. The RX7 is a good blank, so is their RX6, but the RX8 has more sensitivity and is lighter. Batson has added quite a few blanks typ

I have been asked to build (2) lite spinning surf rods for a friend. Don't get to many request in Tennessee for surf rods. Is there a rule of thumb for stripper guide? The blank is a Batson SUR1083F - 9 ft., 2 piece. The reel is a Penn 450ssg, (I think). Bill at Midwest and Batson put the components/blank together for me.

I have gotten 35 or so rod shippments from USPS either from Midwest Rod & Reel or the Batson facility in Washington to my location in Tennessee. I can get the rod shipment faster than I can get a letter. 3 days sometimes 2 days. Go figure.

I got several A rigs when they came out early this summer. I live and fish in Tennessee. Did not realize the exact wording of the law until after the G'ville tournament. There was an FLW tournament on Ky Lake close to my home. The Tenn Wildlife Resources Agency issued a clarification for TN. A'rig can be used with 3 baits and 3 hooks. This is the max. The strkes are bone jaring. I sta

I bought a couple of set of caps/inserts from Mudhole. Unless I get my syringes crossed up, I leave them in the cap/bottle. I mark the syringes for "Hardner" and "Resin".. I still make a booboo now and then so I keep a spare set of syringes for when I accidently cross pollinate the two. Yea, the ink comes off in no time.

I have bought from Acid Rod recently. My service has been mixed. I think they sit on an order in lieu of having a backorder which I really don't like. I had an order once where I ordered (2) spools of thread the same color and got one. No response to emails and not worth a call. Then I would place an order and it would be processed in less than a week. Very inconsistant. If I am lookin

None of you mentioned guys that need some anger management. I've a couple of those in my list of clients. Bass fishing is terribly hard on rods. I don't know if any of you saw an article on a BASS or FLW winner on Lake Champlane (sic) who made a 60 mile round trip run through what must have been some pretty rough water. Got his rods out of the rod locker and 4 were broken. Had to mix and mat

Col. Thanks for the pics and the test. I'm color blind. I use quite a bit of Madeira for bass rods but have never done a test without CP. I acutally thought you would see a little more change in shade with the CP.

I have picked up a brush pen that uses indigo ink as its ink source. I want to use it as a labeling marker. How will epoxy react to ink? Does in need to be treated with CP for example to protect it from bleeding? Your thoughts?

I have a repair of a C. Stix. The guide appears to have some type of metal inserted ring in lieu of AO or SIC. I have seen similar quides on Fenick rods as well. Can any of you share some info on manfacture and where they can be obtained? THANKS!

Can any of you recommend a yellow that is close to the yellow used on S.R. rods? Either a nylon or polyneon.

Charles, I have only done one skin job. I used TM high build, 2 coats and hand turned the rod for 90 minutes, 180 degree per turn then went to the dryer. It worked fine for me. Skin came from MH.
