I prefer Red Sable. But when I ruin my last one by forgetting to clean it, I apply with spatula. Micros just a pick.

Some of the OEM's are using a additive to speed the drying process which really alters the finish when cured. But they can bag and ship them in a few hours.

Its the best buy out there for your money. I love the finish, its just what i want on a blank. You usually get what you pay for..on the HM's perhaps more!

I personally don't think its a bad thing to use a split reel seat on a Flippin Stick. For me it alloys me to get my hand wrapped around the reel better for a better grip on hook set because of the less material, the hand will wrap around the reel and blank better. A definite plus for small hands or cold weather. Sensitivity wise your not giving up anything between the two, as for this technique y

I understand what you want to do yourself, I would either use Decal Connection or practice writing on blanks. Some people can do it with very nice results, Im not one of them though...

The Alabama rig has been effective because it is targeting suspended feeding schools that usually is the fall fishing pattern at most any lake with a good bait fish population. Im sure there will be anglers throwing them in the absolute wrong situations and will store them away in their tackle box cause there not catching fish like the pros. But it will make them look for a rod that will be able

Bill, I also use a string tied to the butt end and mark tube as which end to open. With the string tied to the butt and taped to the the tube, the tip wont be rocketed toward the end cap and break it.

Two pound and a half bass on that rig with 3" swimbaits is like pulling up a car tire off the bottom. Cant imagine what two 4lb bass would feel like! I can see a Seeker doing that. Way to get on it Bill.

I would suggest the MHX HM873. The SB812 is a little to soft for me, might be good for 1/4 oz baits, but 3/8 or larger the 873 is the deal.

Steve is dead on. When drop shotting sensitivity is everything. I don't care if your fishing it 2 feet deep or 70 feet deep, You need to feel that tick because that's usually all you feel, sometimes they will just mouth it and all you will feel is weight . I have guys that use a 7' High Mod MH blank and braid with flouro leader when fishing deep schools. I too don't like the blends, just get the

Thats interesting Mike, I will try that finish. I strip alot of factory rods and sometimes I need to apply some finish. In the past I have been using Lumiseal and have had great results, it would be hard to beat that product for that.

Every tournament angler I talked into ridding the rod locker of the rod tubes has thanked me. They can store more rods and with the stick jacket sleeves thay can pull the rod from the bottom of the pile with no problem of tangling. Micro guides with the rod tubes has been a good thing, but I have replaced several also that have been completely broken off from putting in the tubes too fast. For a

Bill , extended threads on barrel. Hopefully the more threads will not be added to the end thats usually cut off any way, but if the barrel is made shorter and threads added I can get a reel to tighten up and stay put.

Dean Rojas has won more money on a frog than anyone can imagine. He visited my booth at a Expo in Greensboro a few years back and spoke some about what would be the perfect frog rod. He asked to see a 7' MH rod, all I had built was a 7' Loomis IMX. he messed with the rod a bit and then pulled me to the side and said if this rod were a little softer on the tip, it would be the perfect rod. So he

I guess the 7th times a charm. But it took bringing my 9 year old daughter with me for luck at the reception. She won a sweet fly handle and reel seat. I will have to check tomorrow but I believe Tom announced it was from Anglers Workshop? There was no buisiness card in the bag so I will have to inquire tomorrow.

It takes MHX, Rainshadow, Castaway, and Lamiglas to fill my builds. Not all blanks are created equal. One companies 844 differs from the others 844 no matter how hard their copied. There's just specific companies blanks that perform better than others on certain ones in my opinion. You wont find a company producing blanks that's not selling quality stuff, even the ones that quit selling blanks or

MHX,Rainshadow,Castaway,Lamiglas. It takes these companies to fill my arsenal. All blanks are not created equal no matter how hard there copied. I have specific blanks I like to build for specific purpose simply because they perform better for certain applications. One companies 844 isn't the same as another companies 844. But you wont find a bad company that produces blanks to build on! Their ki

I would agree that the MHX blanks has a Scion price at a Lexus quality. But I know some people like to buy a name too. I would be very surprised if he found fault in the MHX line.

It would really be an advantage if everyone would furnish the materials. Along with the no warranty you wouldn't have to worry about FET taxes and state sales tax also. And when they break one, it will cost the same to rebuild it. Im sure that would work out well for the suppliers, as they can make more on materials to a retail customer. Thanks for everyone that posted, without this board I could

Good point Tom, I am sure that would be the case. Theres a engine builder in town that was letting people supply their parts. He got a bad rep. becaause of some failures. He builds great racing engines but now only supplies the parts.

Thanks Alex, that explains the increase in calls! Im gonna give em Billy's number! Your right Alex, the marketing is working very well for these companies, I believe I will force them to learn to build their own, or find another builder, Hey I have Steve Gardner's number to give them too. I just declined a build after talking to the guy. He told me where he bought his products and thought it w

Ive just been getting more and more calls in the last 2 years from guys that have bought there parts from catalog stores, After talking to them, their intentions were not to ever learn to build the rod, but actually to save money in the end by finding someone to build their stuff. I dont mind showing anyone anything I know about building their own rod, and will give them any information they need
