Brad -
I think you'll find that people sort of gravitate to manufacturers based on the type of fishing to be done = lots of "categories" for bass fishing (flipping, carolina rigging, spinner baits, popping rods) several for trout fishing (spinning, fly fishing - which also sub-divides) then there are variables such as how much abuse a rod might be expected to receive on a day / over several days ..... Lots and lots of choices. I think you'd be better served asking specific questions. Something like "What blanks do you prefer for ____________" I'm pretty sure someone on this board will have built on a variety of blanks and will have opinions / rationale for choosing a particular rod blank for the application to include length; graphite / composite / fiberglass / bamboo;; "power" or "action"

It takes MHX, Rainshadow, Castaway, and Lamiglas to fill my builds. Not all blanks are created equal. One companies 844 differs from the others 844 no matter how hard their copied. There's just specific companies blanks that perform better than others on certain ones in my opinion. You wont find a company producing blanks that's not selling quality stuff, even the ones that quit selling blanks or folded had nice blanks. It wasn't that that determined their fate. Their like women "their all good...some are just better than others".
