the topic was micro guides in a rod locker correct? I have a nice BassCat boat and have no issues with the rod locker. Spiral wrapped casting rods naturally want thereel pointing down which means the guides are up. A little pressure on the blank once the tip is in and they will slide right in. Spinning rods are different, guides on bottom with the reel but point the reel up insert tip and put the same pressure to slide it. Over 5 years with the boat, micros since 2008, no problems at all. Oh and my boat has slots for 5 partner rods, spares can go in the driver side front locker. You have to take care of your partner, especially if it happens to be your wife!!!! And yes I often take 10 rod/reels for me, especially prefishing.

The one thing I do not like about the racks, depending on the back deck, it takes up space. Also the tips of the rods hang over the edge of the boat and if you are in tight quaters around cover, you will mess up your rods. With the covers I was talking about, if you can get your rods mostly down by your feet, only the tips are sticking up and as long as the strap is on the rods, they don't go anywhere.

The bac-rac looks like a pretty slick rig for this type activity especially with a bass boat.

For a deep V walleye boat as we commonly use in the upper Midwest, - especially if there is a windshield; the side of the windshield, with the tips pointed back can easily handle a half dozen rods with little issue.

I was just fishing in a buddies boat today on the Mississippi river for Walleye and I have a 6 rod portable carrier that I use to hold my rods during transport as well as on the boat. It works well and does a nice job of protecting the rods during runs between spots.

I have one that is not this one, but the design is similar. Mine is double sided so that you can tote twice as many rods. But store them on the deck with the tips pointed toward the stern to keep the tips from catching the wind.

Again, as with any rod building related items, these questions and concerns all come into play when trying to figure the best type guide design, the best overall build of the rod considering both fishing needs as well as any other specific needs that the angler might have as a result of its expected use and type of service.

Every tournament angler I talked into ridding the rod locker of the rod tubes has thanked me. They can store more rods and with the stick jacket sleeves thay can pull the rod from the bottom of the pile with no problem of tangling. Micro guides with the rod tubes has been a good thing, but I have replaced several also that have been completely broken off from putting in the tubes too fast. For a co-angler, the stick jackets or any other rod sock is a great idea, untill you get in the boat. Then they need to be taken off and stored before blast off or things wont turn out so well.
