571. Re: epoxy
i used loctite 60min epoxy for my first cork grip and its like a rock...$3 for a thing of it and it comes in 2 syringes that are together and you push them out in equal parts without measuring

when you coat the whole rod like that do you have to wrap the whole rod or can you just do your guide wraps and such and apply the epoxy where the blank is bare?
when you do that can you do it in sections? im asking this because im going to use a gator blank and if it looks ugly uncoated then ill have to coat it but i dont really have a lot of time all at once to do it

574. Re: rotis. motor
i tried home depot and they said they stopped carrying them but ill try sears and everything you all suggested and if not ill have to order it online
i only need it for the drying process because everytime i apply finish right after that i seem to have to leave and end up with drips in the finish from not being able to turn it
thanks for all the replies everyone :D

580. Re: heating question
i put them in my pocket for a couple mins to warm them a little and it makes it easier to push my loaded syringes for accurate measuring....it doesnt really matter for me if the pot life shortens because i usually only do 1 rod at a time and it only takes a couple of mins to get the epoxy on
hah come to south florida! its 85 during the day and its winter! haha send some of that cold down here

probably a 20-50 or 30-80 class should be fine...i use a 7' 20-50lb class rod catching 3-8ft sharks off the beach and dont have a problem muscling them when i need to
also make sure he has a reel that holds a bit of line (at least 350 yards)

i had to ream the cork on this spinning rod im doing (my first rod) and it was pretty simple...better to learn now so you can do it later again if you need to
its really not as hard as you might think just check the fit often so you dont go too far and youll be fine

hey if you are only in it to build for yourself and someone asks you how much tell them what you want....doesnt matter if they buy it because youll want to use it yourself anyway...but if they do want to buy it you will have made good money off it ;)

588. what is this?
everytime i go into this tackle shop (they build custom rods) i always see rods on the drying motors and a dark color liquid is dripping from them....does anyone know what this is?
and on a lot of factory rods it looks like the whole rod has been covered in finish instead of just the guide wraps...why is that? also doesnt that take up a lot of finish?

im not sure about building fly rods as im still on my first rod (light spinning) but soon ill be building my first fly rod...
i know this isnt what you were lookin for but this is some info that might help you with your budget....
in fly fishing the 2 most important things are the rod and flyline...the reel is just something to hang the line on so to speak haha...so spend on the rod and fly

yeah you can....but think of it like this the more you mix the more you can be "off"
example: if you mix 10cc and you are off by 10%..well if you did the same with 5cc you would be off by 20%
if that makes any sense at all??? haha

im building a 6-12lb class rod and im having trouble putting the guides on to find the right placement...
i tried taping them and i can get the lower guides taped on but the guides toward the tip top ive spent hours trying to tape them on and its so skinny up there that i cant do it (doesnt help that i have big fingers)
can someone recommend something to try so that i can easily attach them
