im building a rod and need some suggestions on which guides i should look at the rod is a 6'9 gator glass 30-50lb class rod and im going to be using a shimano Trinidad TN30 reel on it spool up with 80-100lb power pro super braid (this rod is specifically for this reel and line and will not see any other line or reel for the life of it) which guides would be best suited for this rod? i second the lexan...i use it on my drag car and most everyone else that has a fast drag car uses it as windows you can beat on it with a hammer no prob

i def. agree with you tom....it seems everyone tries to find the lowest price on everything but when im buying something im not afraid to pay a little more because the service is usually a lot better...for example a local tackle shop around me is where i buy most of my bait/lures etc they are a little more expensive than everyone else but the service is 100x better and when i need to return somet

ahh ok great cause i just got done doing the butt grip and now im starting on the reel seat and foregrip...not sure how to pick the size guides i need or which guides i want to use but ill have to wait till next week before i can order some guides also need to try a new finish because i want this rod to look super nice and with the flexcoat high build its yellowing on my other rod already and

it looks less than 1/2 inch when i looked at it before i thought it was much more of a curve but now that i look at it again its really not as much as i thought

ok now i have one more question...when i look down my blank it curves at the tip...should i take it back and get another? or is this normal? will it have an ill effect if i use it?

i feel you! im starting my second rod now and i learned a lot of stuff i shouldnt do when i built my first haha...before i started my first rod i thought it was super complicated but as i started building it i found that it was 1000 times easier than i thought it would be happy new year to you and everyone else on this great forum and thanks for all the help and making the rod building process

i have a gator glass blank now that im going to build its a 30-50lb class and ive run into a problem... on the butt end of the rod the rod comes to the bottom and then an inch before it the dia gets a lot smaller do i cut this off? someone told me i cut the end off but im not sure if i cut the whole part where it gets smaller or just like 1/16 inch off the end...help! thanks in advance

thats what your reel drag is for...breaking a rod is probably because the reel drag isnt set right not if theres a locking wrap or not would a guide coming off making the line no longer follow the curve of the blank cause more of a problem?

i hand turn to dry but its harder for me to turn the rod and apply the finish decently unless i had a big wheel to turn on the end of the rod so i get a continuous motion

i leave the extra epoxy in the little flexcoat cup and then when it hardens squeeze the cup a little and the hardened epoxy comes out clean and the cup is ready for use again (then again im only doing 1 rod at a time so as long as it lasts for like 10 mins im good)

i think im going to try an 18rpm or 25rpm im not sure if faster or slower is better but it has to be better than hand turning it and trying to apply haha :)

ahh ok just checking because i did that on the grips and seat but not the guides....also i tried out flex coat high build and it turned yellow in a couple days :( and hasnt even been outside yet..but the flexcoat light i used on the other 3 guides i did is still crystal clear and they have been done for a couple of weeks now

im confused here i have a burnishing tool and im not sure which side of the tool i should be using??? the rounded side or the flat side? i figured the rounded side but then i read something and now its got me thinking im using the wrong side

for the epoxy on the underwrap can i use flexcoat lite and then on the overwraps use like flex coat high build or threadmaster or something like that?

yeah i know im going to use the rod bond on the rods i build now...i only used the loctite because it was my first rod and i didnt want to wait for someone to ship the rodbond haha

20-50lb and 30-80lb class rods the gator is a 20-50 and the 30-80 i havent decided on yet bottom fishing is what its going to be used for
