I am building a surf rod and I am Using Quick Grip over cork tape for the butt grip and Amtaks Rubber Shrink tube with the X-flocked sections over cork tape for the fore grip. I know the diameter of the grips will shrink when heated, my concern is will I lose any length when I shrink them? Do I cut them exactly to size or do I need to leave them a little long? Or should I just cut them long a

Hi all, got a quick question for you. I'm doing another surf rod and have decided to start off with double foot guides (BMNAG) and finish off with single foot guided(BYAG). I normally underwrap my double foot guides, do I underwrap the single foot, or should I just single wrap and add trrim bands to keep the same color scheme? I realize I can do whatever I want, I was just curious if single f

Ken, based on the last time, you probably got another couple of weeks, LOL. It does hurt when everyone is talking about how good an issue it is and you don't get yours for a couple of weeks. I was really bummed out the last time it happened to me. Tony

Thanks for the responses, James, the rod is a second hand rod that has a broken guide, otherwise it's in good shape. I've had the rod for 2-3 years and never touched it, it'll be a second backup. I'm not concerned about the warranty just want to get the rod usable. Tony

Hey all, I've got a Winston BLS 9' #8 4 1/4 oz rod with a broken guide. I asked Winston what guides that they use and was told send it to them along with $30 and they woud replace it. I want to do it myself, which is why I asked what guides they used so I can match it to what is already there. I need to replace the 2nd double foot guide. It looks like a chrome SIC guide but there are no Fiji

Andy, I gave the plug 2 coats of Threadmaster and it came out great. It has a clear, smooth finish and I can't wait for the first set of teeth marks in it. I'll post a pic and a link tonight. Tony PS - Plugmaster might not be a bad idea, LOL a little cross marketing. A couple of pics

I normally screw the reel seat away from the bottom of the threads (tighten the seat) and then wrap the threads with teflon tape (for pipe). It's not adhesive and it comes off easily. Tony

I saw Mike Joyce use a metric ruler last year that worked well. Mudhole also sells a buttwrap alignment tool. Good Luck Tony

Billy, I have both but I was impressed over the clarity of the Threadmaster, and it seems prety durable. Plus, since it's my first plug why not experiment? Tony

Andy, got a question for you. I turned my first plug today, a needlefish. It is completed except for epoxy. I was gonna use 30 minute epoxy, but was considering using some Threadmaster thatI got from Billy at the LI NERBS gathering. Do you think Threadmaster will be OK for this, or should I stick to 30 min??? Thanks Tony

Billy, not too sure yet. I have some BMNAG guides that I will tape on and test cast. Probably a 40 butt guide and work from there. Tony

Hey guys, just wondering if there has been any feedback on the fuji CNMAG guides. I am planning of building another surf rod and was looking at these guides, instead of the black BMNAG. My concern is the durability of the chrome finish. Any input??? Thanks Tony

How will quick grip work on top of cork tape? I have a couple of rods that have had heavy use and the cork tape is starting to wear. I know I can redo the cork tape, but I was thinking that this might be a little more resilient. Any opinions??? Thanks Tony

Hey all, can anyone tell me the volume and issue number of the latest issue of Rodmaker? I suspect that I should have gotten one recently and before I go spouting off I figured that I would check to make sure I am correct. Thanks Tony
