Bruce, some of it isn't too bad. I hate to spend the money/time when my intent was to change them over with a quick grip type material anyway. I find that the cork tape on a surf rod does a number on the waders, causing a leak in a very uncomfortable spot, LOL.

OK, here's my dilemma. I have a couple of rods that the cork tape is wearing away, therefore it is no longer smooth or round, guess I'm a bit aggressive, LOL. I plan on using quick grip or Nu Skin Rod Armor to replace the cork tape. With the exception of my main surf rod that I have worn down to the blank, will replace the cork tape on this one, I would like to just install the Quick Grip/Rod

Mike, certainly not questioning you. You have a lot more experience with the fancy stuff than I do, just curious if it would make a difference. Tony

I have been doing the butt guide like that for the past couple of years, but then back to normal after that. I might try test casting that setup on the next rod. Tony Edited because my spelling looked like a Billy V post, LOL.

Jay, I have an older one as well. My tailstock does not have a roller bearing either, but it is just a cup with a point that is attached to a threaded (female thread) type coupling. Was yours this way also? If so how did you change it? Tony

Jan, I haven't used it for rodbuilding applications, but I have used it. Strong, waterproof, but it expands and oozes out of any opening requiring sanding. I'd be afraid that it would come out of the reel seat/grip interface or the top of the grip and look creepy. I have used u-40 rod bond for grips and have had good success. Tony

I have taken mine in a plano rod tube as part of my luggage. Normally a 10'surf rod, 7' spinning rod and 2 fly rods. all are 2 piece. I have one of those cheapo fleece blankets that you can get at any wally world and I try to wrap each piece individually in the blanket. I'll explain, put in one piece then fold the blanket once, put in another piece, fold again, etc. I try to align the guides

Couldn't you use the mesh drywall tape to build it up, especially if the foregrip will cover it?

I got mine yesterday, finished reading it the first time already. I do however have one issue with RM, now I have to wait two months to get another issue, LOL. Seriously, another great issue Tom, can't wait for the next. P.S. Anyone else ever feel that when you make a joke or a tounge-in-cheek comment on a message board (any Board, not picking on this one) that you need to further explain

Can a second coat of color lock be applied 24 hours later or is it too long a time span? Thanks Tony

Tim, the way I understand it, and they way I tried it on my last rod is that you do the blocking wrap, then locking wrap1 which goes aroung the guide foot and then around the blank (like a figure 8), followed by locking wraps 2 &3 then 2 or 3 more blocking wraps. I think that you are having issues the same place I did that the lockin wrap goes around the guide foot then around the blank. I

OK Thanks Andy, that puts my mind at ease. This will be my first trip using a CP and or Threadmaster for that mattter. And I didn't want to have to rewrap. Thanks again Tony

I just used color lock on some guide wraps and was planning on trying some threadmaster for the first time. I was wondering if anyone has used this combo before and if there were any issues? I could try a test stick tomorrow, or use LS. But I figured I'd ask anyway. Thanks Tony

Cliff, on the following thread, you stated "Let the glue soak right into the Thread and bind to the rod blank." Do you allow the glue/epoxy to dry and then install the tip top with epoxy/ ferrule cement or do you install the tip while the glue is still wet. Thanks Tony Re: Tip Top size Posted by: Cliff Hall (---.dialup.ufl.edu) Date: March 25, 2006 04:12PM (1): You ca

Billy, I'm thinking of using silver metallic/blue metallic as the underwrap, and blue nylon, either gudebrod 245 or 246 for the guide wrap. Tony PS I have to buy more thread to enlarge my color choiices, LOL

On the rods that I have built so far I have never used CP, so on the rod that I am building now I was gonna try it so the thread doesn't darken up so much. My question is if I do an underwrap in metallic thread, I assume that I need no CP here, and I do my guide wraps with nylon thread and apply CP, should I apply a light coat of finish to the underwrap first? Am I correct in thinking that the
