Just curious if anyone has tried Fuji's "Tangle Free" guides and if you noticed any real difference. I do fish with braid and have had some issues with line fouling around the guides.

The guy was out of line. The people who manufacture products have to keep the big picture in focus. Their instructions are aimed at the general masses, to make sure that the most people possible get the best results. Mixing larger quantities makes the process more foolproof. The easier you make something the more likely it is that people will get good results. The harder or more involved you make

Not sure what you mean. I have seven of them. Mine have held up fine over at least two hard seasons now. But I don't use them to whack the kids or to poke lures off stumps. I just fish with them.

I doubt the coating is important as far as grooving goes. I believe they are hard chrome over stainless. The coating is just colorizing.

If the credits were an oversight, why not give proper credit now, right here? Who built the rods? Thanks.

Well done. Really captures the flavor of the event. First stop for me in 2010 will be Cason's Custom Finishes. RJH

The problem is that the ratings you mention were subjective which makes them suspect to begin with. I would tend to believe the AA figures over the subjective ratings. The problem with the damping, balance and accuracy is not necessarily a reflection on the action. I can think of many other things that would cause those characteristics before the basic action would. The material it was made from,

Can you find a collapsible model that would allow you to get more than 7' in length in use but then collapse down to fit into your rod box?

I think the guy is saying that he does not owe any more tax because it is included on the components he buys. WRONG. If he resells the components he does not have to collect any excise tax on them. It has already been included and paid. But.............at the instant you use them to make a new item---the fishing rod---you must now figure and pay the tax on that new item, the rod.

Not too small at all but you can get by with fewer sizes. I think that sort of thing has become obsolete with more modern rod building thinking. I would try something like 6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-10-12. Saves a little weight and gets the job done even better.

I would be interested in knowing the logic behind those #4 and #3 guides. Why not move right to the #2 guides? We know that if you tape up and look at the line path the addition of the #4 and #3 guides causes off-drops in line path every time you install a different sized guide. The path is straighter if you move to all #2's right out from the #10 stripper. Seeing that the omission of the #3 a

U40 Rod Bond will do it all. Stays where you put it and lubes the grips on the way down too.

Something I would like to know is whether or not a rod that is very heavily flexed but not fractured or impacted is actually harmed by an extreme flex. I wonder about rods that are pushed past their limits but do not break. Do they come back weaker and more prone to failure after a really really really extreme flex?

IMO the Rainshadow is a little lighter and a little more responsive. Both are excellent though. Hard to go wrong either way.

I have used a few. Good value for the dollar but no better than many of the blanks sold by some of the sponsors here. I assume they are imports.

I just read the North Fork blog on blank coatings --- I admit I like some of the bright colors on rod blanks. But I always wonder how much performance are we giving up with a painted or coated blank over a bare blank? What is the weight of the paint or coating on a rod blank as an overall percentage of the blank's total weight? Anybody have any idea?

The greater the difference between the butt and tip diameters the faster the action will be. The less difference between them the slower or less fast the action will be.

Got the new Rodmaker SE#2. Great job. A really great reference for so many rod types. My only question is what other SE Cds might be forthcoming?

I know we like to think that the rod companies cut corners and that a custom rod is superior in every way, but rod companies are still faced with keeping costs down as much as possible while trying to best their competitors in the sales game. This means that if a certain alignment of the spine could reduce breakage they would do it. If it meant that a certain alignment of the spine would increase

I would have just put a teeny tiny drop of finish into the micro opening or hole and let it go at that.

Bobby I would agree with you up to a point. But you have to understand that this forum is for rod builders first, fishermen second. So rod builders naturally discuss the nuts and bolts of the rods and techniques involved and leave the sunsets and the fishing experience for the fishing forums. If you are looking for really first class rod building instruction you can find it here. If you are looki

I think most fishermen and even many rod builders mistake the terms action and speed. While material has nothing to do with rod action it would have a good deal to do with rod speed.
