My nephew loves to peir fish here on the west coast of Florida (mostly for shark and Tarpon) and has ask me to build him a rod like one that he has and loves. As I have not done this type of fishing I asked him to bring by the rod that he has so that I could look at it. At first I thought no problem but I am having trouble finding a blank to fit the bill.
He said the rod he brought by was in the 40 to 60 lb class, It was a one pc. nine foot. footer very stiff with a tip size somewhere around a 14 to 16. I have been unable to find anything in my searches for something like this. I am wondering if it has been extended, The reel seat was set 24 inches from the butt. These guys are fighting big fish and I was thinking that this might not be a good thing to do. He did say that he thought that the rod builder got his blank from a place called chaos rod building suppy, some where on the east coast of Florida but I have been unable to find such a place searching on the net. As you can tell I am really out of my element here so any suggestions would be of help. Re: out of my element

Alan , you could get a Rainshadow SU1209 which is a 10' blank , line wt.20-60 , have 14" cut off to make it 8'10" so it would not break the bank shipping a 9' or 10' blank . Just an idea . If you could use a 8' blank look at the SWB80XH . Good luck in your search Robert Re: out of my element

Chaos sells supplies if you walk in, but they are more of an OEM builder ... they have two locations in Florida. Take a look at the Lamiglas L9050 - Mudhole can order it and Bob Mc at Custom Tackle can too (he might even have it in stock). Re: out of my element

Sense Lamiglas and Batson were mentioned I would talk to Todd Vivian at Lamiglas or Bill Batson at FainShoadow/Forcast

Alan I'm gonna try to make it to Chaos after work today to get some supplies. I'll ask them if they know anything about that rod, doubt it but still give it a try. I was in my peir rat days back when Chaos first hit the map and that sounds like a very similar rod Tim would build for us. If I remember right and I doubt that also but they were hot on Gator Glass back then. Gators T90XH is 9' tip 14 but its medium action. Re: out of my element

Scott hit it ,most all the old custom rods were based on the Gator glass blanks the T90s and 80s were the most popular- Star rods and Chaos both used them for a while as did many other local manfacturers good inexpensive unsanded blank Re: out of my element

You might talk to FishSticks4U (a sponsor). They are a Batson dealer, and very helpful always.

go with the gator glass blank or the seeker ps90. i have built several of the seekers and its a good pier rod for tossing live bait or cobia jigs but not for tossing anything over 12oz. and i also use perfection guides which are also superb. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
