O.K. I'm new on here so please forgive my last blunder.
I have a set of three carbon rods built by Daiwa, as I bought them as 'used' I'm not sure of their age. I am having a few problems with the build, and I was wondering weather anyone could throw some light on the subject. The varnish has turned a milky, cloudy whiteish colour, with what looks like thousands of tiny bubbles beneath. These bubbles do not protrude above the surface but remain underneath. I was wondering; a) If anybody could tell me what has happened? b) If anybody could recommend a good product for stripping the varnish from the blank? ( Would ordinary paint stripper do the job?) c) If anybody could recommend a good product to re-coat the blank? Thanks in advance. Re: Stripping

Tom it sounds as if the finish is lifting off the blank, a couple of pinholes moisture gets in you get that appearance-have no idea what Dawia uses for a finish most times a mild heat source will allow you to peel off the finish. I would avoid chemical removers after the finish is removed prep the blank and use permaglos as the finish .
,note do a search tons of info available re stripping blanks permaglos use etc John Re: Stripping

If you are willing to remove the color as well, you can scrape the entire paint/finish job off with a razor blade carefully held at a 90 degree angle to the blank. Of course, at that point you'll be face with having to recolor the blank as well, but you can do this all in one step by tinting PermaGloss the shade of your choice.

Thanks for the replies. What medium would I use to 'tint' the Permagloss with. Re: Stripping

TAP plastic pigment, the solids from Testors model paint, most any of the powdered pigments sold in woodworking stores, etc. It doesn't take much.
