Bruce, Why not drill out a button, poker chip, coin, or steal something from the jewelry box.Why even bother with a check, most rods today don't even have a fore grip.

Marc, I too favor Tennessee handles and most my rods have em', except for the two rods I have posted a photo of in the misc.files.The rod on the top has a very comfortable grip that I use to throw finesse baits with. The bottom rod has an old Fuji-Lew's SpeedStick handle mounted to a UL bank fr trout fishing.I know you have a painful condition in you hands and I think that if you built a Tennesse

Bob, Your another smart guy, and I have a feeling that after this thread is over we wont be able get those old rods as easily as we have in the past.I also have stored agates that I accumulated and some are NOS that I acquired when a shop owner was retiring. There are many facets to rodbuilding, weather it be innovation & performance, decorative, or repair & restoration. Its whatever you

Bob, Yes I do know that agate guides have some value but, I have no control of the pricing, nor am I advising him. I think it would be best for someone to buy the complete rod, more value as whole. As far as $5 per agate guide, it depends on condition, frame style, size, and demand. But $5 is a minimum. You can just about buy some SIC guides for $5 and their in mass production at this time. There are

Neil, I dont know how much the worth is but,He had a pile of rods (20-30) that I think were all good enough to be refurbished and like I said in my post some had agate guides and tops with German silver seats, ferrules, hosels(winding checks) along with some checkering on the butts.I've seen a lot of old rods but some of these were more on the line of a custom builders workmanship. I picked out on

Jeff, Without looking at the photo,(which I cant) The reason for guides on both sides of the rod is to prevent the rod from taking a set or warping in an arc after fishing for a long time. The next time out the rod would be spun or turned up to the other set of guides. By alternating use of this method was a way of keeping the rod straight. If anyone would like a rod like that to work on, I hav

Jeff, Just to clear things up, are you thinking of a ferruled type reel seat that the tip section has a screwed locking ring and self aligns with the reel seat. Before I start looking I need to know exactly what you want. I might be able to help you.

Fred, Yup, Your right, I miss red His intent.I use I" foam brushes to coat an entire raw blank before wrapping. With PG of course. What threw me was the fact that He's using PG and bubbles.I just assumed He was coating a blank.

I too will agree with Tom on the issue of line movement but, in the case between you and your friend,I think you may have had better bait presentation and were more appealing to the aggressive fish.If he could feel em',and you did'nt, He should have outfished you if you were'nt watching your line.

Kevin, Closing them in a car door or hatch back works great for a lot of guys. The problem is, its not always in the right place. Me, I spin mine in a lathe and just touch it with the edge of a fine file or fine toothed saw.Wear eye protection!!! THAT'S ONE LESS TOOL YOU HAVE TO SUPPORT.
