St. Croix produced blanks with the first three letters of their model # to begin with IMC these were of the SC42 graphite and had a jet black finish in lengths from 5'6" to 7'6". Casting blanks for Walleye/Bass/Pike. ARE THOSE BLANKS GOING UP ON THE BUY/SELL PAGE?

Bill, Tom's idea is good. Also, try Mag wheel cleaner with a scrub brush or a Scotch Brite pad.If that don't work, take Rogers advice.

Rick, Check the BUY/SELL page for SALESMAN'S SAMPLES quite a list. Joe might have what you need. So, you left Jersey and took all the whiting with you. No mercury in that batch, otherwise you would have never got e'm on the plane. Why spiral wrap with turbos if your looking to reduce weight. Frame strength? Your on the right track to use a composite blank, (low cost) trim to your needs, with

Steve, TESTORS paint is a good match for those red and yellow bands at the end of the guide wraps on UGLY STIX. I use to use a single strand of D thread as a wick, holding it with tweezers, and dipping it in the paint and then against the rod as it spun but, it was too wimpy and had no control. Sometimes I hit my mark and sometimes I didn't. I now use an old guitar string(the ball end of an E or

Tom, An eye for an eye is a rule all creatures can live with , and that's what made this forum so successful for the past nine years. YOU give everyone a chance to be treated with respect by everyone on this forum as long as they return the same respect to everyone. It's not a hard rule to live with. This forum is about the only topic that attracted all of us here in the first place, RODBUILDING.

Wayne, As a precaution, with blue painters tape, mask off each guide at the end of its wraps.(just in case you go a little wild with the razor blade) Next, starting from the center and ending at the end of the guide foot, slice the thread along the top of the foot. ( that way you won't chance scoring the blank) Next, if the previous builder used CP , you should be able to peel off the thread you

Lash LaRue would have been a master caster with one of these, and the reason I say this is because (fishin' with a whip) has been around a lot longer than those rods are. With the weight reduction and degree of durability that todays fibers can achieve it makes sense to return to this style of fishing. Its back to basics without the worry of equipment failure with a quicker presentation . I person

Matt, You cant do it without making it a pieced rod by adding a metal ferrule if you intend to fish that rod again. If you just glue those splintered sections together, it becomes a wall-hanger. Dennis J. Danku(Sayreville,NJ)

Ed, Its a good thing I saved my Lew Childer"s volume II rod building components from years ago, otherwise I'd think you were speaking pig-Latin. Every time someone asks about an out of date FUJI guide I can always find it in this catalog. Now to answer your question, I have 1(one) of those tiptops but its a size 13 along with a set of 6(six) guides in new condition. Interested? e-mail me for

Vince, First of all their not honey yellow as we know it to be, their the color of French's yellow mustard. Not like a Fenwick, Fisher, or Lamiglas, and yes they will make a great inexpensive meat stick. Add another $20 to the cost and you can get a branded blank that would be more worthy of all the work your gonna put into a theme rod. Now don't get me wrong, if you want to dead stick with cut ba

Bill, I would think that with a multifunctional handle( I haven't read the article, but I assume the handle repositions to adapt to spin/fly) metal ferrules would provide a bit of security/strength. With a load on the rod, metal ferrules may be just the ticket for that butt joint connection. Whats not to like ,that's one less rod you have to carry and unlike pack-rods you have a one piece blank.Th

Bill/Tom, Do you mean locking ferrule into reel seat or a fighting butt attachment for a fly rod? If you are, same advice. Keep em clean. Even a one track mind gets derailed goin round the bend, Dennis

Bill, I only use metal ferrules as replacements or for repairs of the old style fiberglass rods. Sometimes the old timers want a 2 pc rod and dont care what it looks like or how it fishes, as long as they can get it in their trunk. Most of the time they are low income/ retires who keep all their gear in the trunk .In most cases the job ends up being a charity case. Another thing is that metal fer

Wilie, Any rod that has metal ferrules has to be taken apart and cleaned after every use. Any ferrule that wont come apart needs to be treated with KROIL penetrating oil, its the best I know of. Apply a few drops to the ferrule joint, let it sit overnight, roll the jointed area against a hard surface like a outdoor hand rail or a table edge ( this will help break up the corrosive bond )

Chuck, Go to a industrial supply house and ask for: 3M SAFETY-WALK #310. Been using this product for a few years now, it's the same as what your looking for. I like it. It has a textured surface, not like sandpaper. A nice alternative to cork tape. You'll have to buy a full roll. I get mine from FASTENAL CO. No special account needed, open to the general public.
