Love that thin trim band in the center of the guide wrap.

If you super glue it, how do you align the guides before epoxy?

With the smaller reamer, ream both ends of the grip half way. Then send that reamer all the way through from the bottom. And always do what Tom and Norm suggest.

Just parroting what I've read many times on this forum. When you no longer leave a finger print in the excess epoxy in the cup/foil, a second coat can be applied.

Herb, how are you threading the line through the rings?

David, if you want to post the pics in the body of the reply, you'll need to use a hosting site like Postimage. You can choose a thumbnail that will appear in the body and can be enlarged with a click on the pic. Just copy and paste the address with your post.

I'm with Spencer. You will have to choose one or the other. Big snook and jacks with a MH and trout and small snook with the M.

You can remove that excess epoxy with a stripped bread tie. Remove the paper from half of the tie and drag the wire back towards the tunnel while the epoxy is wet. Wipe the excess off of the wire with a paper towel. Check the guides every half hour and repeat until the excess is gone. This process will also force some of the epoxy back into the tunnel.

I think that may be the first rod I've ever seen with the factory label on the top of the blank.

Found this in the same barn that the Heddon #10 came from. I have no use for it but if someone collects these things or has a vintage Orvis spinning rod to pair it with I am offering it for free.

The blotches are raised blotches. I think the finish has bubbled up all along the entire length of the rod.

Thanks, Tom and Sam. For now it will just be a wall hanger. I will eventually get around to a restoration and will follow the advice given.

Is this rod worth refinishing or would it be better to just leave it alone and hang it on the rack? The whole rod has raised blotches along its length. If I want to refinish it, any advice would be well appreciated.

I've built a couple dozen rods using the 703. They are built for speckled trout and 1/4-1/8 oz swim baits. Like Ernie said, these blanks have a WAY less backbone than you would like when fishing for reds. A 1/2 oz lure surely can be fished with these blanks but it feels a bit whippy when casting and retrieving. It certainly is capable of handling 10lb-30lb redfish. It just takes a lot longer

I would buy them. What are the chances of creating carbon fiber thread for wrapping?

I built a speck rod with the dark blue anodized titanium from Back Creek. In the full sun, they have an aura and glow blue. Awesome!

I couldn't upload pics because of my oversized format. You can always use a hosting site and then copy and paste the URL.

I like the hand roll technique. Still use the CRB set up from the Mud Hole beginners kit. If I were selling the rods commercially then the power wrapper would be necessary.

While it is a very nice rod, it is substandard by todays standard. When I restore those old rods, I always pay respect by researching and building it back to its original glory as close as possible. It should live the rest of its life as a rod rack queen.

Call your local UPS. It costs 1/2 the price if your package is square or triangular.

Ask the UPS about cheap.

If you ship them in a triangular cardboard like Mudhole does the UPS cost is much cheaper than if you pack it in a cylinder.

When I use a hosting site a thumbnail or hotline can be copied and pasted directly into the thread on this site. You should have that option on the host site.

Getting registered in the photo section is sometimes unreliable. It could take a day or a few weeks. Reasons for this issue has been thoroughly discussed on this forum but sometimes the problem still persists. If you want to post a pic immediately, I would suggest a hosting site.
