I don't think you can prep the end of that anodized foot. It'll show silver through the wrap.

Thanks for responding, Tom. I think I'll just continue using Postimage.

I did that, Tom. I got the message that I would be getting a confirmation but never did it seems.

BTW El, I like your writing style. You should consider writing fishing related stories on this forum. Maybe an ongoing novel or a series of short stories for our enjoyment. Git it a shot.

Tom, I registered a week or two ago for the photo section and didn't receive a confirmation. It shows me logged in but I don't see an "upload" function. I figured it is something that just takes time but after reading this thread I believe maybe I just missed the confirmation. I've been using Postimage for the occasional pic I post here but I'd rather use this gallery.

100. Re: Ned rod again...
CRB rods are nice for the money. When I first started building I bought the Mudhole kit and a few IS blanks. Over the next year I built 40 or 50 CRB bass and speck rods. It was a great way to learn the craft without breaking the budget. When I felt comfortable employing the techniques learned mostly on the Rodbuilding board I moved into higher quality components.
After another 50 or so bui

Kendal, the blank has a different feel than all of the other blanks I've built for trolling. Its much lighter but feels much stiffer than its rating. This blank is rated medium power with a recommended line class of 12# to 17#. I use 20# mono on the other rods that are rated for 20# to 25# line.
I was thinking the 9' length would be better than this 10' blank but I guess it really doesn't

You can learn a ton about what gear to use for different lures by watching those live bass tourneys on TV. I don't think I've ever seen one of those pros toss a big spinner with a spinning rod.

103. Re: Salmon Troller
Thanks, Spencer. I know its too light for the big North Pacific kings but in late August the coho move into the straight in numbers and they generally run 10# to 20# for a magnum. These blanks are of no use down here on the Gulf of Mexico but I just had to have a couple of them. Maybe I'll make one a coho troller and with the other I can build a $400 sacalait jig pole. I think Norm would be i

104. Salmon Troller
I am preparing to build on two STR-1044-2 (X-Ray LMX) C602 blanks. I've never built a spiral yet but I do understand and agree with the premise of doing so. Its a two piece 10' blank that will become a casting set up salmon trolling rod. I have built a few 9' casting rods for salmon trolling but they were a bit stiffer than these blanks.
Does a 2-piece spiral react the same way as a 1 piec

It may be possible to remake that whole section. I'd love to take a crack at it.

It is a matter of preference. Ream your rear grips and slide them on the blank then choose how much blank you would like to expose. On that blank I would like to have the bottom of the reel seat 12ish inches from the butt of the blank.

108. Re: Threadbare
Daryj, the only point is to push the envelope of rod building. It may create other ideas and innovations. Its quick, strong, and it works. I landed two 5# behemoth bowfin beasts that fought more than a 10# bass ever could. The bond on the guides is strong. I can't say I will start making more builds with this system, but I'm sure it will lead to more different techniques.

This is what the end product looks like. BTW, I caught 2 really nice choupique, two small long nose gar and a fat little bass on this set up this morning. I think the only way to get the guides off is to cut them off with a razor blade. Sorry for the sloppy epoxy application. I'll get it right on one of my Xray blanks. I'm thinking dark purple pearl.

The only reason to wrap thread under a decal, in my opinion, would be to change the base color of the blank so the decal stands out better.

Next up, PG mixed with color pearl dust. How did you get the guides to adhere to the blank with PG?

Thanks guys. I am going to give it back the my buddy and let him fish it. He is like a bull in a china cabinet when it comes to fishing rods. We will put some redfish bodies on it and see what happens. I'm struggling a bit with why would someone ever do this other than to save some time thread wrapping. I've been experimenting with pearlized thread epoxy using VooDoo and noticed that the thre

Received a bundle of old beater rods from a buddy for parts and refurb on the nicer ones. One of the rods is an old AllStar. I was able to remove the guides and they were in very good shape so I buffed them for reuse. Since I do all this refurb for free, I decided to gamble on this old beater.
I laid down some thread epoxy mixed with custom VooDoo gold dust at the guide positions and let

Anodized Alps Ti guides are killer. They give off an 'aura" or glow when using them in direct sunlight.

I went to False River yesterday and frequently landed many largemouth. Not sure what the frequency level is on the NFC blank that I used.

My speckled trout filets only cost me $39.99 a pound. I could probably get that down a couple of bucks per pound if I went with the cheap combos.
