Looking for help to identify and age an old rod/reel combo

I have been asked to identify a rod and try to figure out when it was made.

The reel is an old Pflueger baitcaster and the rod appears to be a 4 1/2' fiberglass rod with the low profile metal reel seat that has the reel seat offset to put the reel even with the first guide, similar to the old JC Higgins rods. It does not appear to be a JC Higgins, as the handles are different, but the reel seat and the white glass blank are the same. The handle and fore-grip are straight cork instead of the Pistol-Grip style of the JC Higgins. I suspect it may be an old Conlon from the 40's, but do not know enough about them. I have pictures but am unable to post them on the forum - please email me if you can assist ([email protected])

The rod was owned by the current owner's great grandfather, who died in the 1960's. The rod was used in Wisconsin on some larger lakes. The current owner is crafting a family history and would like as much info as possible for his book.

I suggest you give figuring out the Photo section a try. Nothing we can do without an image.

I tried, but it tells me to login again, and won't accept my credentials...

I suggest you email photos to the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum in Hayward, Wisconsin. Someone there may be able to readily recognize the rod. This is really a great venue. If anyone gets by there, it is worth the stop.

Richard, the photo section is a different site than the forum and requires a different log in, so if you have not been there before you must set it up with a user name and specific password.

Go to the photo link and follow these instructions: "Please register before attempting to upload photos. You must use your actual first and last name and a valid email address when you register. Internet handles and nicknames are not allowed. You will receive an email account verification shortly after you register. Please follow the enclosed instructions in order to activate your rodbuilding.org photo account."

I have been able top register and upload a couple photos of the unidentified rod - any assistance would be appreciated. They are in the Miscellaneous category... although while it said they were uploaded, I cannot see them.

Try reducing the size of the photo. It wont show up if its too big...even though it says it uploaded.
You can reduce the image with MS Paint if you need.

Richard, does the reel not have a model name on it, like Supreme or something else? All my old Pfluegers do.

I couldn't upload pics because of my oversized format. You can always use a hosting site and then copy and paste the URL.
