I built two of those. Black hole will send you their build sheet if you ask. Just match what they are doing.

One more thing. I wouldn't go overboard (no pun intended) on the expense. Yak fishing really puts a beating on the equipment.

I'm very satisfied with NFC Delta and Xray blanks for reds and specks. For the kayak rods the 703-1 Delta 7' ML works great in either casting or spinning configurations. The ML blank is a bit too light for shore or bay boat use but for a yak its sufficient especially when you go for that Cajun sleigh ride. A 7" to 8" rear grip for kayak use makes for a comfortable lure presentation a

Tom, what was the reason for preventing old threads such as this one from bouncing back to the top?

Silver metallic under wrap enhances the actual thread color. Especially orange and yellow. You can also use PG on the under wrap. It allows the over wrap to slide easily when packing.

Love the new blood. There are so many things left to be explored.

Perhaps a tinted epoxy over the old decals would be more efficient. I tint epoxy occasionally with VooDoo dust. You can achieve any color you wish.

How much do you want to spend? If you've never built one I'd suggest you get a few less expensive blanks and components and "practice" on them.

Thanks Ronald. I washed and scraped it while it was inverted. Next I chose a blank that would fit the skin in the correct place meaning it was installed where it would stay permanently. Then I put it in the Equinox 3000 oven (my car in the driveway) for a few days. Make sure to lay down some protection under the blank. It leached out some pretty nasty liquid. After it was dried I trimmed bot

While I was skinning it I did wonder what it would taste like crispy fried. He was just a little too small.

I'm sure this has probably been done before. This is my version. Small banded water snake skin.

If you feel the need to add a weight, spent brass bullet casings can be custom weighted and then taped to get a tight fit inside the butt without gluing them in. Then slip the end cap over it.

Aaron, I've got one with the fluoro and one with the braid. They will be used equally.

Also, the correct way to load a spinning reel with mono or fluoro is to peg the spool on a wall or post. I start by facing the label end of the spool towards me. Most manufacturers will have the label on the correct side. Begin spooling by taking a few turns of the reel with the line coming off of the label end of the spool. If it twists, turn the spool over and test again. Sometimes when

I tested my Ned/braid this morning along with an identical Ned/10# fluoro. The Ned/braid out casted the fluoro by a good 15'. The braid rod has a 20 butt guide and the fluoro has a 30 butt guide. Both were tested with a 1/8oz jighead and a Ned plastic. BTW, I caught 4 bass, 2 sacalait, and 2 goggle eye.

I bought a Shimano 2500 for this rod a few days ago. I did, however, build the rod using a 20 for a butt guide knowing it would be used with braid. I'm pretty sure it won't cast mono or fluoro as well as braid.

Aaron, I'd like to throw fluoro also, but just can't seem to tame it on a spinning reel. Whats the secret?

One will do but I like to wrap with D thread then seal with PG then over wrap that just on top of the feet leaving a reveal on the toe and near the guide ring. Just a little insurance and it looks pretty good too. Blue under and black over is pretty nice.

Just finished wrapping a 703 for Ned. Spinning rod will be loaded with 10# braid and 1/16oz jighead. I've already got an identical one for 1/8oz and 15# braid.

I would have bought a box, but I was unsure of the "mystery". Did you get rods that you want to build or some not so much?
