Braided CF tubing is very tricky to apply. You can get 3 foot lengths in various diameters. It expands when slipped down the blank to its final resting place so get a few different sizes. Once it is in place, use 1/4" tape on both ends to get the required length. Pull it tight making sure not to twist the sleeve. Soak the sleeve in PG. When it is almost dry, carefully trim the excess u

I've built two Black Hole 7'6" Nano Popping rods. The guys using them have caught numerous yellowfin in the 50# to 75# range. Pretty cool 2 piece design. The finished factory rod sells for over $600. Buy the blank and build it to Black Hole specs and it costs about $325.

I was asking if the difference would change the "feel" of the rod.

I repaired a Mojo rod for my nephew. It was broken cleanly about 1/2" from the fore grip winding check. I drilled out the butt cap and slid an appropriate diameter and taper old blank section through the handle. 6" inside the handle and 6" protruding. Glued the top section over the protruding splint. Came out really nice after refinishing the whole rod. I used a section of 30.30

I'm thinking that if a double foot guide can be made flexible it would eliminate finish cracking.

Tom, has any manufacturer tried spring steel guide feet? Is that even a viable solution?

I think it would be easier to remove the decal and finish then re-apply the decal and finis coat.

Put it back in the car bending it the opposite direction and check on it until it straightens out.

Can't help you with the Kelly green but after looking at your gallery I think you'll be able to figure out something. 3-D printed custom parts are awesome.

It probably will end up too short and weak if you do that. Do you have some old retired rods that you might cut the handle section off? Something with a larger od than the blank you are going to use. Sneak up on the cuts making sure you have enough of the blank inside the donor handle.

I think invisible as possible means silk. Look through the photo section to see if this what you want.

Get some pearlized dust and create the color you want. Mix the dust with thread epoxy and test it on top of the thread you choose. I'd wrap about 4" of thread on a scrap blank section and test your color creations. Blue herons have several more colors you can try to match for accents. Sounds like a really cool project. VooDoo.

I don't think I've ever had a straight blank. Nature of the beast. Tip up!

Steve, normally the guys on this board would reply with some options. Probably only one other builder on this site has any experience catching a gator on rod and reel. I would go with the least expensive double foot Fuji heavy duty guides. No matter how much care you take with this rod, its going to take a severe beating.

If that rod won't work for a small jig, perhaps it will work great for another application.

Awesome! You are down with the sickness. I've been wanting to build a spiral yellowfin rod for a while now. Can you hook me up with those components and a build sheet?

I love the way the look. Still need confirmation on the length. 15" from the front of the reel seat or the base. Its a bit too long for my type of fishing if the rear grip is 15"

"Carbon Black". Carbon fiber braided sleeve only on wraps and guides. Not finished yet. Needs a good wet sand and a final coat of PG.

Mark, I have a rod on the dryer now with the carbon sleeve both for decoration and guide wraps. This stuff blooms like a flower the moment it is cut. I had to experiment with it a few times to get it to perform. When it gets its final coat I'll post a pic.

I'm building one now that will have only carbon fiber decorative and guide wraps. It is a prototype. I'll post pics when its done.
