Last Fall there was some discussion here that the Ultrra Poly was more expensive. Given the factt that it has more line per spool the price of the Ultra Poly there is almost no difference. I used basic pricing from some our sponsers websites and compared the "per Yard" price for A thread, not the spool price. This is what I found. Fuji thread........$0.274 per yard Pro Wrap..

Eric Runout is the amout of wobble in the chuck. If you put a mandrel in the chuck and clamp a dial indicator to the shaft if it has any movement that is what is considered run out. That movement could either be in the shaft of the drill or possibly in the chuck. Pretty hard to check on a hand drill mostly used to check drill presses and lathes. Tom

Tom To answer some of you questions , first as Michael said you don't need a ferrule it us built into the rod. You do, however, need to wrap the female end. As a basic rule you wrap back at a distance of 1 1/2 times the opening of the ferrule. You can go further but it would be only for looks not strength. It is important to start your wrap as close to the end as you can get it. Make a few wr

All the suppliers,I use, on the left are good at getting things out. If your in a bind for something just ask if they can help, you'll be amazed at how well they all do. However, If my order is shipped by USPS it takes normally 6 to 7 days from Florida to Maryland. On the other hand the same, USPS takes three days to get from Washington State to Maryland. Can't figure out what takes so lo

That sounds like a good alternative. I also have considered turning acrylic ones on the lathe. Could also do as Bill suggests painting a silver one then clear coating it. I just found it strange that you can get anodized trim rings and butt caps in green but not winding checks in the same color Thanks for the input. Tom

Been many questions on winding checks here but I have wondered why is it that you can get green trim rings, green butt caps but no one that I have found carries or offers green aluminum winding checks to complete the sequence? If anyone knows a source for them i would greatly appreciate knowing who carries them. Tom

X2 Roger. I use one everyday to apply rod tips and Also to put guide foot adhesive on guide feet. Works beautiful. However, I got rid of the old glass type bottle long ago and use the bottle like thread epoxy comes in. It has a very good seal and the cap go on very securly. It also has weighted balls in the bottom to assure it stays upright. Never have had any issues. Tom

X2 Roger. Last year by his request, I built a rod for a client in metallic blue. Strength wise it held up good but after a year in the Sun it faded so bad you couldn't begin to tell what the color was. Tom

Scott Just another suggestion. If you haven't checked out the Rod Geeks S Glass it is worth a look. I have built a good number of them and my clients are extremely happy with the performance. Not to mention that you can get it in any color you like. They are fish well and look great. Tom tomscustomrods.com

Hi Robert Years ago I built my young grandson a John Deere theme rod. If you try to get a decal made you will hear about copyright and all that kind of stuff. The simplist thing to do is go to Google Images and type in John Deere. it will give you plenty of options on style decals. I made my own by using "white backed" water slide decal paper. Once you print it on your print

Michael. A friend of mine just went to a Mudhole Rod building class at which he received the new CRB wrapper. He brought it over for me to see and I have to say I was impressed. It is well made very easy to use and has the ability to be added on too. If you are looking for a good hand wrapper look no further. Tom Tom's Customs Rods

Mark I have been adding glitter for years works great and looks nice. Key is not adding to much, so experiment. I stick a epoxy stir in the glitter and only use what sticks to the end, Also Michaels has it in any color you want cheap. For those of us that have repaired BPS Bionic Blade rods they all have red glitter in the epoxy. Tom

The Aero 16 has an inner diameter of .998' the Aero 17 has an inner diameter of 1.08" The Winn grip will not work on an Aero 16 it is 1.08 , which is why it will work on an Aero 17. From what I see on the Winn's that I have here, there is no way to sand them. The coating is so thin you would be right past the color. Now that being said, you could trace the the shape of the reel se

Bill I have the prowrap color thread chart using real thread in lieu of photos, great tool for rod repairs. There is no yellow or orange in metallic thread. However there is a 9100 Yellow gold which is very light gold and a 9135 in the Pro X metallic thread. Either of these would be a close substitute. As far as orange you possibley could use 9720 Red copper but that's a stretch. May

You are right there, colors sell. And for no more than what they charge to paint it why not?? The finish on them is top notch. I am hoping that all the new colors will be at the Expo next month. I would think they will be? See you there. Tom

Hey Billie If you are getting any of those new Neon color blanks put a few photos up here. They look really good on your facebook. Bob sent me some samples to show people. For any of us that build rods with split grips or not, for that matter, how agrivating is it to have to remove that extremely sticky decal on the base of the blank. Then clean off the glue residue . Well today my newest shipment of rod blanks came from the Rod Geeks. To my pleasant suprise, they have now placed the rod blank model decal on the blank with Rubber Bands. How easy is that to r

Jimmie Roger is spot on for Mudhole shipping. If you jsut buy a $8 reel seat the shipping will probably be more than the part. They offer several tiers of shipping costs depending on the amount of your order my order this week was FREE but you have to order over $400 to get that. Take a fishing rod in a tube (that you had to buy) to Fed X and see what it cost you to send it. Easily
