Marc I agree with Roger but if you insert from the thread end you should warp the threads in masking tape to prevent epoxy from getting on them. Then immediately wipe with DNA when finished.

Had a rod brought to me today for a guide replacement. All it says on the rod is Billy Westmoreland lite line special. It is a fiberglass rod about 5'6" and appears fairly old. The first guide frame is broken and the cushion and ring are missing. Below is a photo of the next guide up. Does anyone know if these are still available anywhere and if so where? All and any help would

Hi Lauri A possible choice may be the MHX MB941. It is 7'10" in length that is rated to throw 1/4 to 1 oz weights. The blank has a Mag taper and is very strong in the butt section yet only has a 5 tip. It is a fast action blank although most drop shot rods are extra fast. That may not make a difference since I am not to familiar with your type of fishing. It is definitely below y

Dave On the casting distance and for accuracy if available in the U.K. I would definitely suggest the American Tackle Microwave guide system. It will definitely give you the longest cast. And welcome to the forum. Tom

Although not exactly red, Pac Bay has introduced both their Minima and single foot fly guides in Ti Bronze. Just saw it in their new 2016 catalog and it looks pretty sharp. Tom

David, thank you for the feedback. So often many of the guys here on the forum offer suggestions based on their many years of experience and never hear back as to how things turned out. Roger and Bill are spot on about grinding the foot down and happy to hear that solved your problem. I wanted to mention a little more on the thread. Doing the test wrap that you did is the right way to se

David I have read you original post a couple of time and trying to determine your problem. I may be wrong but I read it as though you are wrapping the guide from the ring and down onto the blank?? If this is what you are doing the thread will slip or run down the guide foot. You need to wrap from the blank up on to the foot. And even though I think AT does a good job on their guide feet y

Tom I have a solid sleeve that fits extremely well. I was thinking that making it only as long as the ferrule if that makes sense. Hollowing it out will be difficult since it is not that large but doable. Before starting on this I will contact the owner and explain the situation and let him make the call on fixing it or sending it back to him. Thanks for your input....much appreciated

Was given this 3 piece saltwater travel rod for repair. It's the first one that I have been given to do this close to the ferrule. It was a custom made rod with no information as to its manufacturer. All it says on the rod and case is Travel Rods Limited. I guess that is the builder since there is no information on a company with that name or at least that I can find. The owner would like i

Don Thank you on your clarifications. it is a beautiful system and does work well. Just last week I had a customer bring me a Factory Shimano spinning rod he said was casting poorly. It had #6 running guides with regular guides in front of it Starting with a 30. By sheer luck the first running guide was almost perfect for the 27X, so I added in the Fuji KLAG H to complete the guide train.

Matthew Yes the NGC is dependent on your reel size and not a phenomenon, it is the real deal. If you lay it out correctly it will work great. And it is not necessary to use Fuji guides nor is it a marking ploy. The Fuji guides do in fact work rather well, l however I have done quite a few NGC's using the Pac Bay Minima 4 guides. They are priced significantly lower than Fuji but my custome

David You mentioned two things in your original post. Fish eyes and especially over the decal area. This won't help with bubbles but applying a coat of CP over your entire decal as well as the edges should eliminate any fisheyes in that area. Tom

Matt the ALPS MVT seats in 14, 14.5 and 15 mm do NOT have the carbon insert. If you can get a tube that size all you will need to do is slide it on and mount to the rod blank. Tom

When someone asks me how much will a rod cost I generally tell them "As much as you want to spend". Then explain that a reel set can cost $8 or it can cost $58. With that I will ask what do you intend to spend for a custom build fishing rod. Now I know what the market will bear. Then go from there, but at least you have a commitment per say. Also depending on materials I have take
